Australia is leading producer of macadamia nuts, seems like their farms are destroyed. There will be a super high demand world wide and Kenya might benefithow is that related to the fire?
Australia is a top producer of Macadamia, and those fires must have caused significant damages to their crops, so, in the next few years, we are looking for higher demands in the world market.
It happened either in the late 90's or early 00's, and our farmers were smiling all the way to the bank.

Macadamias grow very slowly. I planted one 3 years ago and is's no more than two and a half fett high.
Climbing a macadamia tree is not a joke. Those thorny leaves can badly injure you. The trick is to plant the short thin varieties which you can shake and drop the ready nutsMacadamia nuts grow on large bushy trees which start producing after four or five years. The trees will be in full production after six years and will continue indefinitely.
There are several major varieties of macadamia nuts including Cates, Beaumonts, James and others.
Depending on the variety, the nuts may drop when they are ready for harvesting, or you may need to pick them off the trees. Cates will split the outer hull on the nut and drop. This normally will start in late October and continue through to the end of January.

The problem is that you cannot export NIS which would have benefited most farmers. The Australians export the nut in shell to China na bei mzuri sana. Akina munga wa equity, Junglenut, Kenya nut and a few others ganged up and convinced the government that wana fanya value addition.
