Scientists attributed the rising to geological factors rather than river inflows. In any case elders said the last such rising was in the 1920s.

What caught my eye is the public infrastructure (roads, schools, hospitals etc) now under water.
Years ago when a close relative worked as a GoK engineer under MoPW he used to regale me with tales of how, when designing roads and bridges for instance, they'd seek out the oldest wazees in the surroundings and ask them to describe the largest flood/ torrential rain season they'd ever seen in their life. They'd then build infrastructure to comfortably handle that.
Sasa mimi nashangaa, when did we depart from this cardinal tenet? :confused:
