A 21-year-old man was last night shot dead by a police officer in Kilgoris after he allegedly declined to part with a Sh3,000 bribe.

The officer is reported to have accosted the deceased in Transmara, who was ferrying charcoal in a Toyota Probox, and demanded to be given the money to allow him to proceed.

The incident occurred along Busangi-Esoit road where the police officer in civilian clothes had erected a barrier while armed with a pistol.

The officer, attached to Mbata in Lolgorian, is said to have escaped on a motorcycle after the incident and went straight to Esoit police station where he surrendered to officers on duty who disarmed him and placed him in custody.

The deceased, identified by police as Jorim Mokua Ogeto, was rushed to Kilgoris General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Ap officers manning mostly illegal roadblocks are the most ruthless when it comes to demanding for bribes whether you have committed a traffic offence or not.
With their limited knowledge of the offences they resort to threats so that you part with a bribe.
I experienced it firsthand in May this year when I tangled with one at Delamere on the Nairobi -Nakuru highway.
The way he was fingering the trigger on the gun slung across his chest was meant to send a clear signal it wasn't beyond him to put a bullet through me.

Hao huwa wajinga Sana. They once wasted my 30mins. ati sija sign Driving License. I asked them "Nimetoka Nairobi nakalita hapa mpaka Busia, nimerudi toka Busia Hadi hapa polisi wangapi wameona hii DL nynyi Tu ndio mnanihangaisha..."
They were ready to rough me up...but being as privileged as me...niliponea😏

Such incidents make me with that we had a Robin hood in Kenya to take care of such people and politicians who oppress civilians.
I don't think there's a need to waste tax payers resources in this case. Hangman faster or shoot squad. So others learn from it.

Ap huona wakikupeleka cell, hio bribe OCS na regular police ndio watakula. Very desperate fellas.

I recently had a rough time with a bunch of young cops after I had hit a kiosk while drunk. We really shoved and pushed but I finally parted with a small bribe after I discovered that I could be arrested and be made to part with a heavy fine.
