Former REREC CEO Nofatos Munyu.
The funds were meant for the solar electrification of public primary schools by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation.
The eight include; Nofatos Munyu (Former CEO), James Muriithi (Head of Renewable Energy), Joel Omusembe (Head of Procurement), Simon Kirui (Economist), Abdirahman Dakane (Director Nav World Limited), Abdi Majid (Director Nav World Limited), Hassan Sheikh Mohammed (Director North Pride Limited) and Fatuma Abdi Hassan (Director North Pride Limited).
The two companies under investigation include North Pride Limited and Nav World Limited.
The charges against the accused range from conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, abuse of office, willful failure to comply with the law applicable to procurement and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
In a statement, the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) confirmed the arrests of Nofatos Munyu, James Muriithi, Joel Omusembe and Simon Kirui Thursday morning.
EACC is currently pursuing the other suspects and has urged them to present themselves for questioning.
According to EACC investigators, the two companies, Nav World Limited and North Pride Limited did not participate in the tender for pre-qualification for the installation of solar systems to public in Kenya.
However, former Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation CEO Nofatos Munyu is said to have issued a letter of successful pre-qualification to the companies and awarded them contracts to install the solar systems at a cost of 39,896,018 and 46,957,685 respectively.
The investigators also established that Nav World Limited was incorporated by the Registrar of Companies on 2nd September 2014, whereas submission of bid documents was done 30th May 2014.

“This was period of three months before incorporation,” read the statement.

Cry my beloved Country.
It is unbelievable how greedy and rotten Folks have become. Same story in every office up and down the entire country.
It is so disheartening and frustrating that there are presently no inspiring heartwarming stories of selfless Men and Women in Kenya. All what Folks are tuned to do is exploit and abuse their employer without rendering any meaningful public service.
No sooner than someone gets a vacancy than they start scheming and plotting how to embezzle what they have been entrusted with. This level of corruption, in a poor underdeveloped country is without a doubt unsustainable and will be our undoing.

Who is to blame for this rampant, shameful and out-of-control steal? Our Leaders, Judiciary, Hypocritical Religion, Education System?

It is my contention that till we put in place very severe punishments, long sentences and tough sanctions to corrupt individuals we will never overcome corruption. But guess what? Our political leaders won’t have none of that. They do not want to legislate to obliterate corruption. Reason being they are more often than not the most corrupt.

This explains why I get sick seeing individuals here not only rooting for but also cheering Ruto, a known and recognised thief of public money, to be our next Leader.

Very true. We are a country of thieves. Try running transport business uone. I tried hiring relatives, friends, friends of friends, strangers and even strangers of strangers. Same story, lazima waibe! If it's not fuel, it's some a breakdown huko kichakani. Then they had this propensity for bribing their fellow thieves!

We have very few honest Kenyans.

I was facilitating at a workshop at Kaguru FTC in Imenti South sometimes back. One evening we strolled to a local club/carwash where apparently matatu crews from that neighbourhood come to have the matatus washed as they have supper, a drink and swap stories of the days events. So one of them told of how he had a tyre burst near Thika and had to call the boss to send money for buying a new spare. The others got animated as they planned how they would be assisted with the burst tyre to con their bosses too. Nilihurumia wenye matatu who have to trust crews.

It's a wild world in our land. Most of us just lack opportunities. We just lost track right from the beginning . Our forefathers dignified thieving.
Le kuan yew tried and minimised. Here we have willing buyer, willing seller.
We can't salvage this in our current generation labda an extra ordinary ruthless leader with strong supporting institutions

Crookedness, deviousness, and dishonesty were despised vices in African norms. Unfortunately, the colonial government made these vices their tools of trade. Those who inherited the colonial government were themselves beneficiaries of the same tools, which means they saw nothing wrong in propagating the same practices. That crook who steals hundreds of millions from public coffers can barely manage to get away with a chicken in his home village.

This crookedness has to be corrected from a certain point. At what point should that be? May be Early Childhood Education and at many other places including government bodies.
