Most Kenyan landlords are bushmen and women, hawana professionalism... Watu tamaa tamaa... They don't have an inch of decency or reason in them. You'd think dealing with letting companies is any better but wapi... It's just a lack of law and order in this country, that makes life a living hell...

Not possible all the time, you may be urgently moving out or away from, noisy neighbours, conflicts or problematic house, no time to stay out a month on your deposit.
Most places require you give notice to move out mostly 1 month lest you forfeit your deposit so badala ya kulipa hiyo mwezi unapeana notice unakalia.

Try the other side kaka. Dealing with tenants is very bothersome kwanza hizi singles. Mtu anapromise kulipa alafu anahama usiku.

You waive two months rent kwa sababu ya covid and the idiot has the audacity to ask for the deposit! Watu wadeal na agents!

Niaje Landlord?

hata UK haikuangi hivi... to make a landlord follow this law is more expensive than the deposit it self

To be honest, hiyo deposit is used immediately you give it out. When I'm a tenant, I like to document anything that can break down. When anything breaks down (like a toilet or a sink) I notify my landlord immediately. Once I rent a house for more than an year, I'm able to convince the landlord to reduce it eliminate the deposit. YMMV, but kama unalipa rent in advance, you should have a say.
