Farmers Beware.
The journey started in Feb this year while watching Tv. Someone from Murang'a was advertising Giant type of pumpkins which he pupports to make millions in few months. Mkenya ni nani.. I took a calculator and made calculations.. The thrill of becoming a millionaire in months time made me forget what I had gone through during the Quails frenzy back in the days.. I bought into the idea and got seeds (@20,000/=) from the guy for a two-acre leased farm with a promise that he will buy off the produce at 40 bob per kg. When the pumpkins were ready to be harvested in July I contacted the guy severally but he never kept the promise. The farm produced 8,000kg. I ended up selling them at throw away price. Way too low. Learn from my mistakes. I now sow what I see on my table every day as Noah said.

The author should forget the quails and TV and remember the basic law of supply and demand.

If 2000 Kenyans watched TV and all went to grow giant pumpkins (BAH!), the supply grew from that 8000Kg harvest to 16,000,000 Kg.

He should now recalculate the price and invite neighbours for free malenge.

That's the same thing that happened with quails. Kila mtu aliingilia.

Are pumpkins perishable?

Are pumpkins perishable?
If it's kept in a cool area with plenty of circulating air, a whole, fresh pumpkin lasts two to three months. Once carved, pumpkins will generally last up for three to five days — or up to two weeks if you live in a colder climate or keep it in the fridge between uses.
