Today I Learned: Fuel gauge tampering

Apparently, some car hire vehicles have their gauges tampered with to show their fuel gauges as empty when in reality there's more than enough for a 50km journey.

This is to check on the clients who will always return the vehicles on empty yet they received it with plenty of fuel.

The ingenuity of this move got me worried of a stalled vehicle when the fuel gauge started blinking at Nakuru yet the driver wasn't concerned at all. We were able to drive all the way to Molo via Elburgon with the blinking light.

There's a sure way to know when time to refill is nigh for such tampered vehicles but I won't share coz wakora wakutorefill wanaweza kuwa humu.

You got that wrong. Research again

Which model was it? A colleague aliwekewa mchele somewhere around Kagio Kirinyaga with his Honda Fit. akaamka asubuhi hana wallet/simu/pesa na gari ilikua imewasha taa. akaamua kujaribu na alifika nayo Roysambu ikazimia huko. What he learnt is that hiyo gari has about seven liters of fuel remaining ikiwasha taa

Nilibebwa na mshenzi kutoka kwa shamba when the 7 pm curfew had just started, ikakata ngata in the middle of no where far from any fuel station and it was less than 30 minutes to curfew time, I started cursing kimiyo moyo but nikaona jamaa hana wasiwasi, ghafla bin akainamisha nduthi and we were back on way......

I don't see the logic in this argument. If you hire a car at half tank, you return it at half tank, as long as the gauge moves.
Unless the gauge doesn't function completely.

Hiyo time imeonyesha E haimaanishi ati imeisha,,a friend of mine always drive ikiwa E na ako na another 3litres of fuel kw booth na huwa anaenda for a very long distance before iishe.

Kadudu, right? Anyway, the light comes on when you start using reserve fuel. Some models can go quite far before stalling
