Swearing in of Benson Mutura, Nairobi county Assembly speaker as acting Governor of Nairobi was postponed to Monday, December 21st following delays.
According to the constitution, swearing in of persons into public office should be between 10am and 2pm time frame. Cause of delay is yet to be established.
Mike Sonko was on December 18th impeached. The Senate upheld Nairobi county's decision to impeach him over gross misconduct, embazlement of county funds and corruption.
Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has come out to state why the swearing in could not take place.
It has now emerged that the county speaker is not a degree holder and cannot hold such a position.
In a tweet, the Senator said:
"It’s about to get Nasty! So the speaker does not have a degree ??? He can’t act as Governor that’s the law #SonkoIMpeachment and NMS can’t draw money directly from treasury ... you are so F@#Up."
Things are getting thick and only time will tell. If Mike Sonko decides to move to court to appeal the decision by the Senate, he still stands a chance to finish his term.
