As we gather with loved ones this Christmas, it’s worth celebrating the farmers who work tirelessly to make this season special. From the vegetables gracing our tables to the livestock filling our kitchens with enticing aromas, farming has played an undeniable role in shaping the festivities. Among the sectors shining brightest this year, the goat industry has truly worn the crown.
Take my personal experience, for example. Back in January, as schools were reopening, I purchased several goats in Laikipia for just 3,500 Ksh each. Yesterday, as the Christmas buzz peaked, the same goats were selling for over 8,000 Ksh each This remarkable price surge highlights the profitability of goat farming, especially for those of us practicing the free-range method.
Free-range goat farming is simple yet effective. We allow the goats to graze during the day and return home in the evening. With minimal costs involved and a good number of goats, the profits are assured. For instance, this Christmas alone has proven how small investments can translate into significant returns, with free-range farming demanding little effort or resources.
As farmers, our work continues to fuel the celebrations of many families. Shout out to all farmers our there!
Here's to a Merry Christmas and an even more prosperous farming journey ahead!
