Every other time, we are reminded that all is not lost in Kenya regarding good leadership.
Many are times that those who are performing in their mandate are overtaken by the loud buffoons that occupy the attention of both the media and our collective consciousness.
I actually believe that we have just as many good leaders as we have the rotten bunch.
Case in point are leaders such as Maraga, Kivutha, Okiya, Lesuuda and others in the judiciary, gubernatorial, senate, and legislature, respectively.
Now, Kang'ata seems to be one interesting fella that perhaps we need to pay more attention to. My roots are in Kiambu & Nyeri and so have never had any much connection to Murang'a apart from the last rùracio ceremony I attended that had ladies blossoming like the sun (story for another day) and where for the first time in a long time, watermelon wasn't placed on top of the lunch plate.
Anyway, anytime I pick up the Sunday Nation, I enjoy reading the thoughts of this son of Murang'a who is perhaps the first Kenyan politician to rise from being a councillor (kanjora for the likes of @upepo), MP, senator and is now on his first term as the governor of the hilly county.
Penning his thoughts is one thing, but I am constantly bombarded by the projects currently ongoing in County 021 and as cynical as many of us are, the man seems to know his stuff and is seemingly working wonders without a lot of hullabaloo.
Let me post what the good ngafana has shared in the past one week for reference:
Now here's the most insane thing: he is doing nothing out of the ordinary, just what he is mandated to oversee as the county's CEO! Literally, the bar is so low that just seemingly meeting it is something to celebrate. For instance, in the devolved function of health, Muranga level 5 hospital now has 8 new extra dialysis machines, and the new Kigumo hospital has 3 machines.
Anyway, I wish him well and that the people of Murang'a, including the lasses I met at that rùracio continue enjoying the perks of being led by a sober person. Especially the one with a gap on her upper teeth and a bum that's rounder than a balloon.
