The story goes that Ngei walked into the D.T. Dobie showroom and took a brand-new Mercedes-Benz 300SEL, KNM 190, for a test drive.
But the Mercedes allegedly never came back!
Ngei reportedly told D.T. Dobie that he had decided to keep the car—and instructed them to send the bill to the Government!
The Government reportedly refused to pay because the car was considered personal property.
What makes the story even more incredible is that the Mercedes was reportedly used for years and later returned to D.T. Dobie for servicing.
Decades later, the legendary Mercedes was still connected to the dispute.
