Mercenaries hired to extract Ksh 6 BILLION cocaine from police custody
Kenya, early 2000s.
A time when cocaine was worth more than lives, and power spoke louder than law.
In 2004, police stumbled onto the biggest drug bust in Kenyan history —
1.1 TONNES of cocaine, estimated street value: Ksh 6 BILLION.
Sio joke. Hii ni pesa ya kubuy counties.
The drugs were seized from:
- A Malindi beachfront home
- An Embakasi godown
Once seized, the coke was airlifted by chopper to a heavily guarded GSU facility.
Maximum security. Tight kuliko State House pantry.
And the KEY to the storage room?
That responsibility was handed to one man -
Top cop Erastus Chemorei.
Guard this key with your life, they said.
Ironically… that’s exactly what happened.
THE OWNERS VANISH
Police arrested the registered owners of the Malindi house — an Italian couple.
Problem?
The real tenants were MIA.
They had vanished hours before the raid.
No forwarding address.
No goodbye.
Just vibes za “we know what’s coming.”
SLEUTHS GO EUROPE
Fast forward to 1st January 2006.
CID boss Joseph Kamau leads a delegation to Europe:
- Spain — where the cocaine boat originated
- Holland — where suspect George Kiragu had been arrested
On paper, investigations were moving.
On the ground?
Back home, Kenyans demanded a public trial.
But then…
The then DPP Phillip Murgor drops a bomb:
“I’m not impressed with how police are handling this case.”
He smells rot.
Big, powerful rot.
THE KEY HOLDER DIES
Then shit goes fully left.
On 19th February 2005,
Erastus Chemorei — the man guarding the cocaine key —
Is killed at his Kitale home.
By who?
FIFTY (50) POLICE OFFICERS.
Let that sink in.
FIFTY cops.
Not a robbery.
Not a mistake.
An execution.
Who gave the order?
Nobody knows.
But kila mtu alijua — ilikuwa kutoka juu sana.
Message delivered loud and clear:
Usiguse hii story.
LIVE TV FIRING – PERFECT DISTRACTION
On 23rd May 2005, Kenya watches in shock as
DPP Phillip Murgor is FIRED LIVE ON TV.
Official reason?
He had dropped charges against Tom Cholmondeley —
Lord Delamere’s great-grandson —
who had shot a KWS officer.
Perfect scandal.
Perfect distraction.
But two days later, Murgor fights back.
He exposes the truth
“I was fired because I complained about powerful people trying to interfere with the cocaine case.”
According to Murgor:
- Certain individuals had been assigned to allow the cocaine safe passage through Kenya
- The plan FAILED
- Now they were working with top officials to clean the mess
Because let’s be honest —
Ksh 6 BILLION doesn’t just disappear.
Hakuna mtu huwatch pesa kama hiyo ikichomwa.
UN GETS INVOLVED — KENYA SAYS NO
Murgor’s claims trigger UN concerns on 22nd June 2005.
The UN offers to:
- Assist investigations
- Provide technical support
Kenyan authorities reply politely but firmly:
“No thanks.”
Hapo sasa ndipo unajua kuna kitu inachemka.
RUMOURS & LOCKED DOORS
By mid-August 2005, rumours flood the streets:
The cocaine is being quietly resold back to the market.
Police bosses rush to reassure the public.
But actions say otherwise:
- MPs are DENIED access to the storage facility
- No independent verification
- Doors closed.
- Questions unanswered.
Why?
ENTER: THE DRIVER
Away from cameras, on 15th September 2005,
An ex-cop named Richard Nerima gets hired as a personal driver by tycoon Raju Sanghani.
At first, ni kazi tu.
Good pay.
Clean Benz.
Little did he know —
This job would park him inside the biggest criminal operation in Kenyan history.
DUBAI MEETING — THE GAME CHANGER
Same month…
Mary Wambui — President Kibaki’s baby mama
Travels to Dubai with her daughter Winnie Mwai, a Foreign Affairs official.
While there, they meet:
Kamlesh Pattni
And Pattni introduces them to:
THE ARTUR BROTHERS
International mercenaries.
Fixers.
Extraction specialists.
Men who don’t ask why —
They ask how much.
And as fate would have it…
Winnie falls in love with Artur.
Mapenzi ya power & cocaine.
A match made in hell
THE MASTER PLAN
The plan was genius in its madness:
- Arturs would come to Kenya as “investors”
- They’d double up as security consultants
- Recruited to train a special anti-narcotics unit
That way?
They’d get DIRECT ACCESS to the cocaine.
Extraction from inside police custody.
Very bold.
Very stupid.
Very Kenyan.
