There was a story about him that he was overtaken on his horse when riding towards Lanet (it was a criminal offence to overtake his horse when driving. You had to stay behind him until he reached his destination). A young Army Captain based at Lanet once overtook him and was arrested and taken to Nakuru Central Police Station.
The then Commander at Lanet Barracks, Major General Opande took a lorry load of soldiers and raided the Police station where he also arrested all Police officers as well as Mungai. He locked them at Lanet Barracks Military Police cells and beat them up thoroughly. It took intervention from President Jomo Kenyatta for them to be released from the barracks. Mungai was given specific instructions never to harass any motorists overtaking him on his horse rides in future! Brigadier Opande was later promoted to lead UN Peacekeeping Forces in civil war hotspots around the world.
He ran away to Sudan immediately Moi was suddenly sworn in as president in an acting capacity when Jomo Kenyatta died in Mombasa. They used to ridicule and threaten Moi when he was VP and Mungai knew he'd not be spared by Moi. Moi later pardoned him during a public rally in 1985. "Mwenye atamuona Mungai amwambie sina ubaya na yeye, arudi"
Whenever Mzee Jomo was in Nakuru state lounge, and he was in charge of security, he never allowed Mzee Moi behold the first gate. Not even once.
 
Luvai and the castrations
Fed up with the rising Mau Mau, the British hatched a plot to crack down the rebellion following its spread to interior Ukambani and a number of home guards leaving the colonial collaboration. Ukambani was considered loyal to the colonialists and had the biggest membership in the Kings African Rifles (KAR or Kea is it was called in Ukambani) followed by the Luo.
As such, the colonial administrators had to find a way to contain Mau Mau oathing in Ukambani and another local oathing (Kuweta na Kwika) that was growing in rebellion to the British, especially in areas along the Nairobi-Mombasa railway.
A Senior District Administrator named Hardy was given the task to contain Mau Mau infiltration in Ukambani and since he was considered a 'passive administrator' - and is said to have liked it that way - he chose a local white farmer in Athi River who had joined the Kenya Police Reservists to handle the matter. That farmer was Louvaine Tom Dunman.
Dunman was well suited for the role. He had lived in Ukambani for a number of years, he had married a Kamba lady named Naomi, he spoke Kikamba fluently and was ruthless as they come. The Akamba called him 'Luvai' from Louvaine and they detested him.
Dunman took charge of the detention camp situated at Lukenya Hill which was designated for Akamba who were suspected of being members of, or assisting the Mau Mau. He is said to have severally driven a land rover with detainees into the forest and returned alone with the detainees never to be seen.
Luvai or Dunman was a name greatly associated with fear throughout the emergency period, owing to his ruthlessness. Several detainees would later confess to have been castrated by Luvai while in detention while those who were thought a nuisance transferred to other detention camps especially Kagio in Kirinyaga, Kandongu in Embu and Manyani in Taita Taveta.
Stories of Luvai's ruthlessness and torture are spread across Ukambani and anyone who spent time in those detention camps.
Other hardcores were sent to Kathonzweni, Kaasya and Thwake detentions camps that were opened in February 1955 following the government's 'segregation' policy meant to separate the Akamba from the Agikuyu. This was part of the strategies that would later in the year lead to the decline of Mau Mau in Ukambani.
Today, the Lukenya Gateway currently stands near the then Lukenya Hill Mau Mau prison while Kathonzweni Boys' High School is the former Kathonzweni detention camp.
Part of JKIA, then called Embakasi Airport, was constructed with free labour from the Lukenya Hill detainees.

In 2002,a group of British personal injury lawyers came to interview elderly people who had been imprisoned by the colonial government in Kenya.Whitehall officials told Tony Blair's foreign secretary David Milliband (currently the President and CEO of the International Rescue Commission) not to write a statement of British government regret or giving compensation to the victims of the anti Mau Mau clampdown.A shrewd Judge in a London court asked the Blair government,if the British were not responsible for what happened in Kenya prior to independence,who was? The judge refused to hear the tactical nonsense by the barristers who now insisted that the injuries claim was time-barred.
This is what happened to Paul Nzili who had been forced to join the Mau Mau in 1957.When he left the organisation the colonial authorities arrested him six months later.During his year in captivity,he was castrated.
'I was taken to an open area in the camp where Luvai (the nickname of a colonial official) stripped me of my clothes in front of all the other detainees'. Nzili's arms and legs were tied together. 'Luvai then approached me with a large pair of pliers which were more than a foot long and castrated me'
 
The Bajuni people are an ethnic minority mainly residing on the Bajuni Islands and surrounding coastal areas between the port city of Kismayo and Mombasa area of Kenya and Somalia’s southern border.
History
By 1960, Somalia (then known as Italian Somaliland) gained its freedom from colonial governance. Kenya gained its independence in December 1963.
The Kenya National Assembly Official Record (Hansard) contains several records of land ownership and rights discussions. This official record, dated Jun 24 - Jul 30, 1971 documents a discussion of traditionally Bajuni lands (Lamu, Kenya) and dissenting opinions as to ownership. In the official record of May 28 - Jul 4, 1974,there were questions regarding what government actually had jurisdiction over the Bajuni tribal lands.
With the downfall of the Somali government in 1991, Bajuni people experienced abandonment by both the Somalia and Kenyan governments. The Bajuni refer to this period as "The Troubles". This marginalization led Chairman of the Bajuni, Hon. Mohamed Ismail Barkale (Maxamed Ismaaciil Barkaale) to petition I.G.A.D. (Africa's Intergovernmental Authority on Development) for the lawful rights of the Bajuni people in December 2003, as documented at www.somalitalk.com. Language
The Bajuni people collectively refer to themselves and are known as Wabajuni. They speak Kibajuni, a dialect of the Bantu Swahili language.

~After the signing of the ceasefire Memorandum in Arusha, Tanzania in 1967, preceded by the "𝑺𝒉𝒊𝒇𝒕𝒂 𝒘𝒂𝒓" between Kenya and Somalia, the formal aggression between the two countries subsided but the Northern Frontier didn’t attain stability. There was occasional armed attacks and planting of landmines along the roads.
~Moi's government in 1984 sent Kenya Army to set up a military base in Wagalla to "discipline the villagers". On 8th February 1984, the then powerful 𝑲𝒆𝒏𝒚𝒂 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒆 visited the area led by the Permanent Secretaries, 𝑱𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒑𝒉 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆 (Security and administration), 𝑩𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒘𝒆𝒍 𝑲𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒕(Foreign Affairs), 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝑴𝒘𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂(Home Affairs), 𝑱.𝑮𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒎𝒂(Information). No account of their mission apart from security assessment was recorded.
~In the morning of 10th February 1984, men of 𝑫𝒆𝒈𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒂 clan, between 3000-5000 in numbers according to the witnesses, were rounded up and taken to Wagalla airstrip.
~According to the survivors who testified to the 𝑻𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉, 𝑱𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 (𝑻𝑱𝑹𝑪), they were denied water and food for 5 days after which they were executed.
~It was reported that the government were planning to bury them in secret mass grave but the natives caught them in the act.
~The government denied the incident until the year 2000 when they admitted that only 381 people were killed but the witness places the number between 3000-5000 people. Remember during that time, the information from that part of Kenya was shut down and the only mass media 𝑽𝒐𝑲 was instructed to report it as shifta meaning (bandtry) to avoid drawing international attention.
~Ironically, 𝑻𝑱𝑹𝑪 which was formed to investigate the incident was Chaired by Amb. Bethwel Kiplagat who was among the indicted.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 "𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙖 𝙬𝙖𝙧"...
~Four days to Somalia independence in 1960, British government declared that all Somali should be confined to one administrative unit but could not do so then because Kenya was still a East Africa British colony.
~Towards the eve of Kenyan independence in 1963, British learned that the new administration had no intention of ceding even an inch of Kenya to either country.
~The Northern Province People's Progressive Party (NPPPP) led the Northern Frontier District including the larger North Eastern in the agitation for secession to be united with fellow Somali in Somalia.
~The government was adamant, the government of Somalia was irritated and sponsored an insurgency named 𝑵𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒓 𝑳𝒊𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 that killed the first African DC 𝑫𝒂𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒐 𝑾𝒂𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒂 and Chief 𝑮𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒂 𝑫𝒊𝒅𝒐.
~Kenyan government response :
*All NFP civilians were taken to 15 guarded "manyattas" akin to concentration camps.
*Many NFP livestock were burned alive, others confiscated by the government, akin to scorged-earth policy.
*Thousands of people killed, NGOs report says over 10K people.
*Detention for 56days without trial
*"Special courts" were set for which was reported not to follow due processes and mandatory death penalty for possession of firearms.
*Somalia government was supported by Soviet Union in arms and training while Kenyan government was supported by British government.
*It took the intervention of the just departed Zambia president Kenneth Kaunda who convened 𝑨𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒉𝒂 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 of 1967. This led to the signing of 𝑨𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒉𝒂 𝑴𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒎 between Kenya and then Somalia PM 𝑴𝒖𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒅 𝑯𝒂𝒋𝒊 𝑰𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝑬𝒈𝒂𝒍.

𝗠𝗼𝗶 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰...
~President Moi used to rever Music so much and this explains the reason many bands/musicians especially those who sang patriotic songs majored in all public functions. He also personally supported many local musicians like Kamaru, Kakai Kilonzo, Joel Kimeto among others.
~In 1991, madaraka day that was held at Nyayo stadium, Kamaru was a hot cake in Kikuyu jazz then, he was invited together with Congolese musician, Kanda Bongoman of #KwasaKwasa in what was billed as a contest between the two by the locals.
~It is while Joseph Kamaru was performing that Kenyans misbehaved by throwing small sticks and stones towards the field as a protest, they wanted Kamaru to leave stage so that Kanda Bongoman could perform. Moi got angry that Kenyans could embarass their own at for for a foreigner.
~The next time, Kanda Bongoman came to Kenya for a show, same year, he was deported on unclear grounds, he avoided Kenya until Moi left the government.
~Ironically, the following year, 1992, when Joseph Kamaru was invited to perform at the same venue for Madaraka day, he lectured Moi publicly in the podium, something no one else had done before. In his own words, he said, "don't sit there comfortably with your fimbo (rungu). I know there are people telling you that you are popular but the truth is that people don't like you". The stadium was dead silent. Against people's expectations, nothing happened to him thereafter.

When President Moi visited Israel in 1979, his plane was recieved at the Israeli border and escorted by military fighter jets till he landed in Telaviv. As he was leaving Israel, the same happened and gave him military salute at the border with aerobatics.
Moi saw a privilege he has been missing and ordered upon arrival that the same treatment should be given to him in Kenya when leaving and entering the country.
What our president didn't know was that for one F5 fighter trip, there's alot of wear and tear that need to be fixed once it returns, also those machines are generally costly in maintenance that is why they rarely fly. Interestingly no one had the courage to tell him.
One day when he was returning from Libya after handing over AU chairmanship, the escort team as usual went for him at the Kenyan border (Turkana) but there was no communication between airforce and KQ therefore Captain Mwangi didn't allow them near Moi's plane until he gets clearances as per protocol.
As they were still seeking clearance, Colonel Captain Seth Shava lost communication and the lights inside his plane went off around Kinangop. He pressed eject button and got out of it with his parachute.
Upon landing in a farm, he hard a loud bang not far from him, it was his fighter jet! Interestingly, as he was landing in a colorful parachute, Akorino (corinthians) ran towards him thinking their God had finally come for them. Since then that escort arrangement was shelved!

14th DEC 1964, more than 2,200 freedom fighters from the Mau Mau had returned to the open for the first time to surrender their arms.
