Danson Mungai is only 24 years old from muthithi, kigumo ,Murang'a County — a young, hardworking taxi driver trying to build a better future for his family. Today, he is serving a life sentence for a crime he did not commit.
Danson was approached by ten people who asked him to transport them from Nairobi to Thika for KSh 10,000. As a young and ambitious man trying to earn an honest living, he saw it as a good opportunity. After all, he was just doing his job — picking up passengers and driving them to their destination. That’s what taxi drivers do every day.
On the way, the passengers changed the destination from Thika to Murang’a. Still, Danson had no reason to suspect anything. He was simply hired to drive. After dropping them off and later returning to Nairobi, he went on with his life — unaware that those same passengers had allegedly robbed a store in Murang’a.
Later, it came out that the people he transported were thieves. Instead of thorough investigations focusing on the real criminals, Danson was arrested, charged, and sentenced to life imprisonment.
At just 24 years old, he has been separated from his young wife and his 8-month-old baby. A young father. A young husband. A young man with dreams — now behind bars.
Many believe this was a bigger deal involving powerful people, and Danson became the easy scapegoat. A simple driver trying to make an honest living should not pay the price for crimes committed by strangers he was hired to transport.
Danson Mungai deserves justice.
His family deserves justice.
His child deserves a father.
Let the truth come out. Let fairness prevail. Let justice be done.
All Murang'a leaders come to the rescue of this young man
