Social distancing v Wearing of Masks

I don't think it was necessary to close the economy through things like social distancing.

In February, Uhuru should have made wearing of face masks mandatory and let people continue with their daily economic lives.

According to Patricia Greenhalgh, professor of primary health care sciences at Oxford University, “there is not a single country in which mask wearing was introduced early and with high compliance, where the disease wasn’t quickly brought under control.”

At the beginning we agreed that no one had experience of this thing and we were winging it. Everyone will recall how experts sent us all this way and that way.
I feel we need not torture ourselves with what should have been but look forward to reversing some of the consequences of the choices we made. A quote from Sophocles...

Spot on brother, we like quoting things later, oh if it were this way or that way.
Like you say, covid hit everyone by surprise, there was no right way to deal with it. Most countries went the curfew way.
@Okiya you have a point, we just chose the wrong path, we could have gone Hong Kong, Singapore and Asian way but they also shut down some public place, though they reopened earlier than us.
But there was no template to follow.

Also note we started getting cases almost a month after all these asisan countries

There is a right way of dealing with a novel strain of whatever and it is what South Korea have done successfully i e prepare for it. That means the infrastructure and resources are kept ready perpetually, they have been ready since the SARS outbreak in 2003.

Baba, ushaona disaster management ya nchi yetu?
The issue here is everyone caught the shut down bug, to stop the spread, and we were among them. We can't take it back.

South Korea
My bro, the reason some of these countries were able to respond well is because in their contingency planning they assume their enemy could hit them with germ warfare anytime and they even drill for it. A country like China saw it as an inevitability after they showed Trump all their teeth (remember the Anniversary celebrations?). It is no wonder they were stealing microbiology intel from US and Canadian microbiology labs.

Its Correct we didn't have contingent planning. This disease is about to overwhelm us because our hospitals are now getting full! I'm not excusing the government but this scenario was predictable a few weeks ago. We didn't open too soon, we simply didn't close the damned barn.

From what I saw yesterday, we are better off protecting the minority of our vulnerable population through isolation because the government facilitates are overwhelmed.

KQ is organizing a flight from Kigali!

If you can't find your way out of the forest in daylight, you won't find it when the sun sets (A Pygmy saying, made up). The bigger lesson is that systems that ought to work must work by all means. If a health system lumbers during quiet times, you would not expect it to manage a sprint when crisis knocks. There were many blunders, most of which will come to light in due time. I find it intriguing that church-run hospitals are more efficient and effective than comparable public hospitals with bigger budgets and more resources. It is also surprising that nobody seems to bothered by the DIY face-masks in circulation. I doubt the effectiveness of some in a situation where the virus attains wide circulation. There are no guidelines whatsoever on what should constitute an effective face mask.

It is obvious that wearing of masks helps reduce the spread of airborne diseases. Taxi drivers at JKIA started wearing face masks way before the government made it mandatory.

Here's the truth of the matter: This flu is just an excuse for gavament to borrow and steal.... It was proven so.
So let us all be brave and call out gavament for listening to a disgraced Wuhan Health Organization that doesn't know what it's doing.
Shalom brothers, be brave.

will you be brave today? Naenda kibera leo and I will be brave, I will not wear a mask

That's being stupid and callous. You will be using your body to transmit a virus that will kill other people. Why should you willingly get infected and then spread the disease to other people? Do you have a conscience? What's the difference between you and that a$$hole who spreads ukedi?

How? They dont even bother to publish their numbers. I think it's the only government in the world that does that. Megafool is the worst kind of a neighbour you can have.
Vile @Mwalimu-G amesema, everybody is just winging it. Uliona hapa Kenya when they said that its true there are cases of false positives. which was confirmed by TZ when they did their own tests. How is it possible that 80% of the infected are "asymptomatic"? Does that make sense to you?

TZ is onto something and the white man will not tell him any lies. Sisi hapa tulifunga economy which was misleading, TZ called them out and they turned out to be right, they also called out the fake testing kits that Kenya never even had a chance to find out, india did the same, 90% failure, imagine that. Do you think when Mutahi announces how many new cases everyday that people care? They no longer care banae he might as well just stop, alisema that he gives those pressers because that is what the white man is also doing, imagine ata yeye hawezi peana a better reason why he does that!

TZ has been calling it right so far 100% why just publish numbers because the white man has asked? What then after that? Its obvious in kenya they are just doing it for the money which is being stolen even as we chat here.
