Located along 154 James Gichuru Road Nairobi. This steak house is one of the must visit places in Nairobi if you are into fine dining. I have been meaning to try some wagyu beef and this is the only place i could find it in the whole of Nairobi, (Kenya, East Africa perhaps but i could be wrong).
The place looks very elegant and takes on the Copper theme to another level with warm colors and an open kitchen where you see the chefs doing their work on the meat, this makes for a good visual experience but there are some cons which i will touch on later.
The building itself is a bit difficult to approach due to the traffic on that road, the entrance seemed a bit cramped to me. The good thing is that they have Valet parking. We opted to go for this but to be honest I’m not comfortable / used to this, after seeing those horror stories of car wash guys wrecking people’s cars I’m usually wary of handing over my keys. Not sure what the liability looks like if something happens.
Onto the good stuff. Once seated we were offered some complementary nuts and the chefs kept sending complementary snacks throughout the night, this really impressed me, they really care about your experience, here is one of the snacks
I don’t remember exactly what it’s called but it was tasty.
I decided to go for the salmon in order to prepare for the main event (Wagyu), i didn’t want hunger to cloud my experience so the salmon was meant to take care of that. Not that the salmon was inferior it surpassed my expectations, have a look at this;
Quite an experience to say the least, next was the wagyu and unfortunately i didn’t take photos. You’ll be pleased to know it lived up to expectations. I really loved this place.
Some cons:
I mentioned about the open kitchen where you see the chefs grilling, that’s a good thing and there’s a glass barrier to protect against fire/spills but it doesn’t shield the heat from getting to the dining area. After some time it got too hot and they had to bring a fan and plug it in to improve circulation. The air cooling and air circulation in the place is not good.
Secondly the Washrooms are outside the restaurant, you have to go outside and walk past some co working space and go next to the lifts in order to get to the washrooms, this is not ideal.
Another thing i noticed is that there is a lot of foreign customers, i might be biased but i think they are given preference over the locals when it comes to service, basically they are served quickly. Let me leave it at that as it’s a sensitive topic.
Anyway it was an awesome experience overall, here is a sample of the damage to the sponsor, last time i got some nasty comments from some people. Please if fine dining is not your thing please stay away from this thread. I don’t like negative energy.
