Nursery is the most critical part in bulb onions production and must be taken care otherwise each seedling count.
40days later our seedlings were like shown , very strong due to proper feeding with beneficial nutrients like calcium, phosphorus ,nitrogen etc and also controlled diseases like downy mildew with fungicides with Ai like copper, mancozeb and metalaxy etc also pests with pesticides with Ai (active ingredient) like acetameprid.
Sprays for the nursery should be done weekly and as I had said earlier, you should be keen on what AI (active ingredients ) you are spraying and avoid repeating it because there will be resistance.
Also read the products lable to see compatibility with other products. Eg when you mix copper with foliars it forms another products that lowers the quality of copper as the fungicides.
Trimming bulb onion seedlings 4 -7days before transplanting is very necessary why?
1.Trimming bulb onion seedlings redirects their energy to developing stronger roots, ensuring a healthier crop after transplanting.
2. Minimize transplanting shock by trimming onion seedlings to reduce water loss and improve their adaptability in the field.
3. Uniform growth starts in the nursery -trim your bulb onion seedlings for even leaf lengths and a consistent crop in the field.
4. Make transplanting easier and reduce damage -trimmed onion seedlings are simpler to handle and plant.
5. Keep pests and diseases at bay by trimming bulb onion seedlings and removing damaged or infected leaf parts
I always use a sharp knife to trim .
Farming must not be complicated!
