How does it feel when you see the heavy rain clouds gathering when you are not yet home? It kind of creates anxiety in you. This is true especially if you are somewhere far off and you don't see somewhere where you can shield yourself from the heavy pounding of torrents of rain.
I pity the motorcycle riders that ply routes some which are dilapidated and even made worse by the ongoing rains. The same headache can be seen on the farmers faces especially those who have not yet planted any crops. As the others are busy weeding, some others can be heard busy using ox drawn ploughs working on their farms as they plant.
Too many farmers are so happy about the rains. A heavy downpour has been reported by the meteorological department in regions of Kibwezi, Narok and Taita-Taveta. It is very important for farmers to keep working as food security is very important to our economy and growth as a country.
It is however, only the hardworking people who can be seen busying themselves in their farms as bees while those lazy ones can be heard making phone calls to their parents back at home asking whether it has rained.
The rains come with a lot of reprieve to many people. Those at home, get vegetables easily from their farms and those in towns can also smile since the price of commodities goes down due to being in plenty.
The joy that the coming of rains brings can't go unnoticed. The cattle get green fresh pasture and goats can enjoy an abundance of green leaves to lush at. Indeed, rain is a great blessing especially if you are in the rural areas and don't have a leaking roof over your head.
May we all do something that will take advantage of the good season of the rains. You can take advantage of the rain to plant trees in your home as trees have numerous benefits to us humans. They range from food, medicine, timber to shade in the hot seasons.
You can also collect the rain water to use it later during the long times of dry spells especially in Eastern regions of Mtito Andei and Kibwezi.
