Few people realize how very close we came to losing our lands. If it were not for the high African birthrates, Africa would have become another Australia or South America or North America, where the original inhabitants were totally overwhelmed by outsiders. The kind of infrastructure colonialists developed in Africa reveals the mindset of a people who were set for the long run. That said, it is also true that they left only on paper, leaving behind structures that would continue serving the colonialist agenda. This they achieved by blackmailing the leadership with ‘non-support’ if the independence leaders became too hostile towards the colonial structures.
