My Grandmother

My grandmother each time she was displeased for any reason, she sat in the shade of a lonely pine tree standing in the modle of compound

She then pulled out her tobacco from her kaptula, snuffed it and then rested her back on the tree, looking at the world like she wasn't part of it and henceforth she never talked to anyone or responded to anything

That's what my mother described as juogi. Nonetheless today, I am not discussing her juogi, but the many narratives she fed us on. She told of how children climbed up her mango trees, each time she left her compound to fetch water, and they hid up the canopy devouring her fruits, until when she will leave again, that they will descend and leave

However, the mango munching escapede in some occasions ended prematurely, when an urge to cough caught up with one of the brats
Unlike breathing with the other mouth where you can choose the volume, whether to it roar like thunder or hiss it like a cobra, a cough has to be loud and you have no option of coughing silently, and this is what ended the party, attracting her attention to the thieves, whom she would then unceremoniously kick off her home
Tanzania's Pombe Magufuli for long managed to conceal the COVID-19 situation in his country but apparently, it has reached a point where like a cough, it is no longer possible to hide it, especially with a series of deaths of several high ranking government officials
Calling for a three day prayers for the deity to intercede, is an admission that the situation is slowly slipping out of hand. I do not mean to say that Kenya achieved anything tangible with her intervention, but as a matter of fact, it pays for Magufuli to listen to his experts
I doubt if doctors in his country endorse his approach in mitigating the pandemic, but for obvious reasons, they won't dare utter a word to that effect because the president is intolerant to criticism and doesn't accommodate divergent opinion
In other news, just like it has been asked if anyone knows another anyone who bought kuku from Ruto in Maili Tisa, or if anyone knows any other anyone who was taught by Rayila at UON, we are also asking if anyone know the secondary school Jomo Kenyatta attended
It is emerging that senior Kenyatta studied social anthropology at the London School of Economics, without ever setting foot in any secondary school. His only prior interaction with education was at Thogoto where he had studied the bible and carpentry
Was this an isolated case or many more happened? Maybe things were so different then, or someone noticed his capabilities and gave him a chance, but this is not practically possible today. Next time an old man tells you their days universities were only for the genius, look at home twice......he may not be honest
