Police officers attached to Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) have intercepted 13 heavily overloaded trucks plying the Thika-Garissa Highway.
The operation which was led by John Gichohi saw the drivers of the trucks flee to avoid arrests, and the police are still trying to identify the owners of the vehicles since their number plates have been removed.

According to Gichohi, the vehicles were also operating unlawfully without insurance stickers, thus putting the lives of other road users into a big risk.

On average, a truck should be loaded with at most 26 tonnes, but the intercepted vehicles were ferrying sand of at least 45 tonnes per truck.

So they were overloaded with almost 20 tonnes?
Can an FSR carry 45 tonnes?
Never
yes it can, kuna truck moja ilikua na 53 tons

Hii ni PR tu. These trucks drive through five to seven police checks everyday without number plates and insurance stickers. All they have to do is to drop some money at the police checks. Second, KeNHA has cameras that have been recording offending trucks for years but no action has been taken all along. KeNHA could not even notice that the road was deteriorating at an abnormal rate. The police and KeNHA are two agencies funded by taxpayers to take care of such infrastructure but unfortunately they participate in its destruction.
