It is the natural order of things for interests to compete.And i don't think there is anything like a balanced relationship between world powers, there will always be a tussle between world powers

But once your populace becomes rich and their basic needs are all met, they start to get aspirational. They start to demand their voices be heard when decisions that affect them are made. China has only been out of a dominant position for around 200 yrs. Prior to that, it was almost a millenium of them being on top. Shida ni, most of the history that the current world has been taught is Eurocentric. Therefore even the idea that China was once a dominating force in this world is lost on most.It takes an empire to fall for another to rise.
