Lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta to defend pastor Ezekiel in court

City lawyers Danstan Omar and Cliff Ombeta have joined the defence team for Pastor Ezekiel Odero who is facing criminal charges including mass killing.

The televangelist was arraigned in court on Friday where it was ruled that he be detained until May 2.

Speaking during a Press briefing they insisted their client is innocent. Lawyer Danstan Omari said “only 15” people have died in the Church since it started more than a year ago.

He said their client is not linked in any way to the deaths of persons in Shakahola.

Pastor Ezekiel was arrested a day after he was grilled for hours over claims his church is also involved in occultism.

Coast Regional Commissioner Rhodah Onyancha said the pastor was arrested in Mavueni, Kilifi county.

She said this was because there were allegations of deaths reported on his premises.

She also ordered the closure of the New Life Prayer Centre and Church.

“He is being brought to Mombasa for grilling. More information will be availed,” she said.
