The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) governing council has confirmed the upcoming 2020-21 season will kick off in November.
According to a statement obtained by Goal, the governing council which met on Friday, October 9, 2020, has decided to commence the league which was halted in mid-March owing to the coronavirus pandemic and that the fixtures will be released on Wednesday.

“This was informed by the need to ensure completion of the 2020-21 league season in good time and in line with the global football calendar.
“The progress of the pre-season training sessions by the league clubs that is currently ongoing and with the successful international friendly between Kenya and Zambia while observing the Ministry of Health protocols has laid the positive ground for the safe resumption of the league.

The statement continued: “The general council remains cognizant of the Covid-19 situation in the country and has put in measures that will ensure the league will be conducted within the existing health regulations in the country to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all those involved.

“The general council wishes to see the commencement of the 2020-21 season with a league kick-off match on Friday, November 20, 2020, because beyond that date it will be impossible to commence and complete the league, in this effect the Premier League will release the draft 2020-21 fixtures on October 14, 2020, in order to enable the clubs to plan for the season ahead.”

The Kenyan league was ended prematurely in mid-March after the country registered its first case of the coronavirus, and the FKF moved to declare Gor Mahia as champions and also promoted Nairobi City Stars and Bidco United.

Already teams have started training anticipating for the government to lift the ban on football and social gatherings, which was effected last month until further notice.
Gor Mahia were the first team to resume training as they will also take part in the Caf Champions League after being declared champions for the fourth season in a row.

Lets go Sofapaka. ⚽⚽⚽🥅🥅🥅

Safi... all the best to The Sharks
but with the recent expose on match-fixing, it takes away the fun of watching and following the league.
obviously Gor will win, so the big race is who finishes from number 2 downwards.

but anything can happen.

The federation has released a revised fixture for the 2020-21 season with a total of eight matches set for matchday one
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed some adjustments to the Premier League schedule with the Gor Mahia versus Tusker match among those affected on day one of action.

The 2020-21 FKF Premier League is set to kick off on Saturday with eight matches lined up for matchday one which will also see a total of three matches screened live by FKF partners Startimes.

According to the revised fixture obtained by Goal, the Gor Mahia vs Tusker match which was scheduled for Nyayo Stadium has now been postponed while AFC Leopards, who were supposed to start the season against Western Stima, will now kick off against Posta Rangers.

The Gor Mahia vs Tusker opener has been postponed as the champions will be involved in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League, where they are scheduled to face Armee Patriotique Rwandaise FC (APR) of Rwanda on November 28 in Kigali.

In the opening day, on November 28, three matches will be played with AFC Leopards taking on Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium, the game will also be live on TV, while Mathare United will come up against Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari host Zoo FC.

On Sunday, two matches will be beamed live, Kariobangi Sharks against Wazito FC at Kasarani Stadium and Western Stima against Bidco United at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
In other matches set for Sunday, promoted side Nairobi City Stars will open their campaign against Nzoia Sugar, Sofapaka host KCB at Narok Stadium, while Ulinzi Stars will come up against Vihiga United.

The Kenyan league is returning for the first time since it was prematurely ended in mid-March owing to the coronavirus pandemic, and it is now under the management of the FKF after the federation refused to renew the contract with Kenyan Premier League (KPL), who had managed the division on their behalf for over a decade.

While 14 clubs have signed the undertaking to start the season, four clubs – led by Gor Mahia, Mathare United, Zoo FC, and Ulinzi Stars – have not signed the same with FKF president Nick Mwendwa warning them they risk being kicked out of the league if they don’t commit by season kick-off
