Kenya Power yawa...

My neighbours have been losing power for two to three days each in the last week. The reason Kenya Power(less) gives is that, wait for it, "the token loading pads have expired"!!!!!!!!!
When my neighbours report they are told to wait for replacement pads zitafutwe Nyeri, Meru and I don't know where else hence the two to three days in darkness.
Considering that the company made the switch to prepaid meters for a lot of customers five years ago then it means a whole lot of customers are losing power due to a problem KP should have anticipated and planned for.
The only reason I have escaped the cutoffs, which seem to be following when neighbours activated their prepaid accounts, is because my original pad failed within two months and they had to replace it with a different make

But my biggest question ... who buys expiring equipment???

They are most likely defective not expired. There were widespread issues with what seems to have been a defective batch. Many replacements were done for the affected customers.

I tend to believe the expiring story because our neighbourhood's meters were changed at the same time and the story came up when we met for a maombolezi last evening and homes are losing power one by one since monday.

Even phones expire, mine expired after an year having bought from saf shop

KPLC problems
Make sure the pre paid meter is installed in meter box , in case it fails to function, just bypass the meter . Mpaka wa replace it !

I may not understand your meaning of expiring phone, but could be the phone was not able to handle adverse usage conditions. I have had my Huawei from safaricom shop but this is it's 3rd year, no signs of the so called expiry.

You cannot be serious. How does a phone expire? The only thing that 'expires' is the battery. It can no longer hold a charge due to the degradation of components after a couple of years of use.
