If we give in to impunity today, we lose the Republic tomorrow.
I have rejected the Ministry of Energy’s response regarding the controversial handover of the Kenya Pipeline Company LPG project to Asharami Synergy. The reply was shallow and reflected a contemptuous disregard for the Constitution and the laws that protect public assets.
The Ministry ignored the Public Finance Management Act, the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, and the Companies Act, under which the Kenya Pipeline Company is registered. These laws are not optional. They are the foundation of accountability in a democracy.
The KSh 192 million was spent by Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) on preparatory work: demand surveys, environmental & social impact assessments, engineering designs. That investment was then undermined when the project was handed over to Asharami Synergy without due process. That is outright fraud.
As a result, today and tomorrow, I will accompany the Senate Committee on Energy and Ministry officials, led by the Principal Secretary, to Mombasa. We will visit the project site and meet with the Project Affected Persons and people of Mombasa to uncover the truth.
This is not just about investigating corruption. It is about justice, it is about transparency, and it is about protecting the right of Kenyans to benefit from their national resources.
This is my stand. I am determined to nip this scam in the bud. Kenyan assets will not be stolen without a bitter fight to the hilt. I will not allow the serpent’s eggs to hatch as I watch.
Kenya belongs to her people, not cartels. I will not blink. I will not bargain with corruption. If defending our national interest demands fire, I will bring fire. Let this be clear that there will be no peace for those who feast on public trust.
