Apologies for not being direct enough, but in short, there are no fringe players in top flight football. Different players for different circumstances. Key is achieving balance and depth in the squad, keeping in mind financial fair play

C'mon. You can't seriously be of such a wild opinion. I can name so many fringe players at United. Lingard, Jones, Ighalo, Dalot and Perreira who are currently out on loan.

Fringe doesn't mean they are not top-level players, it means they are not a reliable component of the team either due to their injury record, poor performances or better young players who have solidified a place in the senior squad.

Logically, you wouldn't throw in a Phil Jones into the defence even against Newcastle amd risk him fucking up as he usually does.
