Not really shocked. Since ARVs and PAP (or is it PEP?) came into town, watu hawaogopi mdudu.
Growing up in the 90s meant watching those very graphic videos of STI-infected individuals, in Primary School, I need to add.. Wueh, they were so gross leading to some of us vomiting and avoiding eating meat for a fortnight. Apparently Tuju was the executive producer.

These are bloomers. They would be tied around the waist with a material draw-string (not elastic band) that would then be knotted. To teremsha that githuruari below the madiaba (as we called them!) was impossible unless she wanted akufungulie knot.
