GEMA was founded in 1971 by three senior Kikuyu Civil Servants:
1) Dancun Ndegwa ~ Head of Public Service.
2) John Michuki ~ PS, Treasury.
3. George Waruhiu (son to ex-chief Waruhiu wa Akinyi).

— Tribalism is perpetuated by government officials who use it to lock in opportunities for themselves, then use the poor masses of their tribes for cover. Ndegwa, Michuki and Waruhiu families are today some of the wealthiest families in Kenya.
— Tribalism is perpetuated by educated elites. The notion that uneducated, poor people are tribal is ahistorical.
— It is the elites who conceived and adopted tribalism as Kenyatta State’s organizing principle.
— Tribalism has only one set of losers. In the case of the kikuyu, it was the poor underclass that was oathed to protect the wealth, prestige and power of the Kenyattas, Ndegwas, Michukis, Kiereinis and Matibas of this world.
