The Dow especially has taken a serious hit and the run continues this morning

Why is China so resilient? Being the epicenter, I would expect -20%.
The Chinese economy is mostly based on real manufacturing and exports. On the other hand, Western economies are based on finance, insurance, and real estate, all of which feature a great deal of speculation and paper value. In China, production continues as long as people are alive and markets are willing to absorb the production. In Western markets, the slightest rumor will get people running all over trying to salvage the paper value of their investments. Financial markets the world over are dominated by investments from the West.

Makes a lot of sense. China produces real value. Western on the other hand has a lot of perceived value which is disturbed in turbulent times.
