I visited Ethiopia first time in March 2025 for business Here's how it went.
Flight - used Ethiopian Airlines.Their business class was way better than the KQ. Their planes are newer. I came back with 737 max and I've never freaked out like that . However food wise, KQ was better. Alcohol was flowing in plenty.
Airport - Its quite massive and more organised than JKIA. The first thing that welcomes you is the several Ethiopian airlines planes at the airport. These guys even have direct flight to Moscow. Hard to believe that in 2005 KQ was bigger than Ethiopian. It's visa free for Kenyans. You can self check in your luggage meaning you can avoid those long queues. But I found their airport staff to be quite nosy. It's like they were cops in disguise
Hotel- it was very cheap. USD 50 for Bed and Breakfast in a 5 star hotel. The city is littered with many hotels. But they tell me in Feb they were fully booked because of the AU election which Ruto lost miserably.
Food- Anyone going to Ethiopia is warned about the food. These guys are not hygienic. Kuhara ni constant. But food is cheap though and it's served in big portions. They're no big western brands like KFC etc. They also don't sell pork.
Women- The least pretty woman I saw was a 7/10. The women are so pretty to the point my lady colleagues kept commenting about them. Most were petite. However Okiya is a loving man with two beautiful wives so sikuosha rungu.
The city- There's no uber. So it's some old taxis working there. However The road to the airport and the one going to parliament and AU HQ look like New York city. I've been to several European cities but that's one of the most beautiful roads I've seen. (Google).
Economy - Hard to tell. Real estate is booming with construction everywhere in the city. However getting dollars is impossible.
Tribalism - Tribalism there is grade A. Kenya's tribalism is a child's play compared to Ethiopia. Huko kuna hadi banks formed to cater for specific tribes.
Last but not least, they use two calendars. The normal one that we use and another one that is 8 years and 8 days behind.
