Istanbul Başakşehir walked off the field during their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain this evening over claims of alleged racism, with former Chelsea striker Demba Ba leading their exit.

Around 22 minutes into the fixture at Parc des Princes, a fiery debate broke out on the touchline amid an exchange of words between players, staff and Romanian fourth official Sebastian Coltescu.

Istanbul assistant Pierre Webo confronted the fourth official over an alleged 'racial slur' and was sent off for his demonstrations.

Soon after, former Chelsea frontman Ba led his teammates down the tunnel and play was suspended with reports in Turkey claiming Istanbul would only resume if the fourth official was replaced.

A video later emerged showing Ba confronting the fourth official, and following the incident, Istanbul Başakşehir's Twitter account tweeted: "NO TO RACISM".

The PSG players followed Istanbul down the tunnel and one of the officials responded that there had been a miscommunication relating to "Romanian language."

UEFA have since confirmed in a statement that play would continue with a different official.

The UEFA statement read: "Following an alleged incident involving the 4th official, the match was temporarily suspended. After consultation with both teams, it was agreed that the match would restart with a different 4th official.

"UEFA will thoroughly investigate the matter and further communication will be made in due course."

However, the game is yet to resume.

The fixture is pivotal in the race for qualification in group H with Leipzig, Manchester United and PSG battling it out for second place.

As things stand, Leipzig are beating Manchester United and both the Germans and last year's finalists PSG will head through to the knockout stage of the competition.
