We have seen everything that we need in politics and governance, from cries to laughter, to screams and all kind of dramas. When a news item comes up to our screens, whatever is being presented is no-longer shocking if politics is to go by.
Former CSs Rashid Echesa, Mwangi Kiunjuri, and Henry Rotich left their offices with series of controversies.
1. Rashid Echesa
Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa came to the limelight when his nomination pointed out questions in parliament after he submitted his CV to the vetting committee only to raise questions about his academic background. The special committee approved his nomination anyway.
A few months after his appointment, he started attending political rallies, contrary to what was expected of him as a CS. In these rallies, we saw and heard him politicking against ODM Leader Raila Odinga and those allied to him.
Those were sad moments for the sports fraternity. Instead of being vocal about challenges in his docket, he decided to become popular by choosing sides. At that time, the 'Tangatanga and Kieleweke' teams were popular and all the dailies wrote about them.
Before he could enjoy the perks that come with being a CS in this country, our Tangatanga CS was sacked.
Reacting to his sacking, we saw a boy who didn't know where to start nor what to do. He called out a presser and said he didn't know why he was sacked and would like to know the reason behind President Kenyatta's action.
We forgot him for a while until last week when he was arrested over an alleged fake military deal that amounted to Sh39 billion. This deal now brings in Deputy President William Ruto and other government officials. The DP now says Echesa visited his office with other foreigners for 23 minutes.
The case is now with the DCI and the court, I'll be kin on how it will end.
2. Mwangi Kiunjuri
The former MP and governor aspirant who had publicly declared his love and support for President Kenyatta and his Deputy was sent home without a warning. He served as Agriculture, Livestock, Fishery, and Irrigation CS for two years before making the President angry.
We have had locust invasion for a few months now and it became a menace in January, leading to an outcry from people in the NorthEastern region. The residents called on governments' help, and the solutions were being suggested by experts and nonexperts.
Memes about locusts were all over Social Media and one nutritionist suggested that they should be taken as a meal due to its nutritious values.
After weeks of doing researches, our dear CS, in a presser asked Kenyans to take pictures of any insects, post it on Social Media so that the Ministry could respond on whether they were locusts or not. This was the joke of the century.
Memes of Mwangi Kiunjuri were all over social media mocking the then CS, this went for days, and before we could recover from his statement, the President reshuffled his Cabinet and Kiunjuri was sacked.
As expected, Mwangi Kiunjuri called a presser and all he talked about was how he was betrayed by a friend. This has continued and yesterday while at a church service he expressed his disappointments and anger towards President Kenyatta.
This, in my opinion, will continue until the next general election. Beef? Time will tell.
3. Henry Rotich
Our calm, cool and collected Treasury CS was working according to his job description, no scandals known and was never spotted in political rallies. He knew and understood his role until the Kamwarer and Arror Dam scandal.
The Dams were to benefit residents of Elgeyo Marakwet county. A total of Sh19.7 billion was lost, the amount was allegedly used to pay contractors before the project started.
The land in which the Dams were to be constructed was not acquired, this is according to the DPP. He also alleged that there were no documents to show that the lands were acquired.
Henry Rotich stepped aside as the CS to pave ways for investigations and was later replaced by Ukur Yattani.
The case is still in court, Elgeyo Marakwet residents are keen to see how this will end.
