I bought an item on Copia yesterday, and was delivered to a Copia agent closeby today free of any transport costs. How are they able to deliver to mashinani without any transport charges? The items are priced ok. And Carrefour just delivered my whiskey for free... Pretty sure also shopping they'll deliver for free. Is free delivery the new battle ground in online commerce in Kenya?

No, the item was worth 500 on Copia and free delivery... Even to mashinani it's FREE delivery....
With Carrefour they have 1 hour delivery windows within a certain radius of their supermarkets for free

So at Glovo etc will have to rethink their delivery options. It does get annoying having to pay delivery for food. If someone can crack the delivery fee part, they can take up quite a market share.

Alternatively this free service could be for a limited time, to gather fans.

Though it was rather obvious as the world had already moved to this form of biz, it was just a matter of time before we caught up.

Their biggest selling point is sending to mashinani for free....... If they move away from that, then it'll be no different than the traditional way of sending goods to mashinani via matatu courier.... They raised a couple million dollars so they have a war chest to work with.

Copia, no. I've used regularly, glovo and Uber eats and some other services while abroad.
Actually while abroad many businesses deliver for free, until the pandemic hit then their was surge of customers and the delivery companies arose.
