The national government has purchased 14 buses worth Sh93 million in order to improve the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in secondary schools in Rangwe Constituency.
The project, funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), aims to improve academic standards in the area's secondary schools.

Rangwe legislator Lilian Gogo, who distributed the buses, said the 14 schools will each receive a bus. Some of the benefiting secondary schools are Odienya, Ang’iro, Achego, Chiepe, Rachar Girls, Koyoo, Got Marera, Aoch Muga among others. The legislator delivered the buses at the chief’s camps near each school. This followed a directive by the government banning functions in schools which are not related to the ongoing exams. The buses were received by the management of the respective schools. Dr Gogo said the buses will be used to facilitate the rolling out of the CBC in secondary schools next year. The MP said CBC requires practical learning hence the buses will help students undertake academic trips in various places. “It is important to be proactive in strategies for implementing development projects. It is said that seeing is believing hence we are creating conducive atmosphere for students to learn based on practical activities,” Gogo said. The buses will also be used for curricular activities such as sports and music festivals. She argued that the buses should also be used for carrying students on special occasions when they are going back home. “We want school managers to use the buses in transporting students during closing and opening days to prevent our girls from overreliance on bodaboda operators for transport,” Gogo said. She argued that overreliance on bodaboda by school girls leads to violation of the minor’s rights. The MP said the buses were fully funded by the NG-CDF and urged the schools’ head teachers to take good care of the vehicles. Parents appreciated the project saying it had relieved them from parting with fees for buying school buses. “The school where my son learns has been planning to buy a bus that was to be funded by parents but I am happy that we are not going to pay the money because we already have one,” Jane Akinyi, parent.

how do you know that?
The legislator is harping about CBC because she knows there is no other way to justify such expenditure for schools with many other obvious pressing needs. Given a choice, such schools would never spend their money on buses. Pick any random rural school outside of Nairobi and Central and chances are they are underfunded in many other areas. From the comments, you can tell that the legislator has no idea what CBC is about. She just had to latch onto something to prevent people from asking obvious questions.
In the past, it was not unusual to find schools struggling to acquire buses before they had decent classrooms or laboratories. This tradition persists to this day.

Hata hapa Central tuna mashule mengi sana yasiyo na vifaa muhimu. This myth that Central is better off than other areas is the one used to deny us our rightful share. Too many assumptions, that's all I am saying.

I have been outside Nairobi for the last decade, and the claim that schools are underfunded is a blatant lie, the capitation is given according to the number of students admitted, and principals with good management schools have done wonders. State of art science and computer lab, libraries, classes.
If you see a rundown school blame it on mismanagement of funds by it's administration.

The capitation is hardly adequate to cater for basic needs. Remember that these schools have a lot of catch-up to do. They need to acquire facilities that other mature schools take for granted. That means the money they receive is never enough as they are always playing catch-up.

I am a BOM member of a school established by the community in 2010, the day scholars pay 10k per year on top of the capitation, we made a savings of 1.2m last year due to prudent use of resources by the school administration. Which has now been converted to additional 3 classes for the increased number of admission.

Prudence in resource use is a major success factor in schools. Sadly, most school management score poorly on this aspect as they pursue popular goals. I would rather have a school set up a computer study room with internet connectivity than buy a bus. Make sure your school prioritizes internet access over other low-impact causes.

Wewe kweli ulifeli mtihani wako wa kidato cha nne ukapata D kuondoa. Kama waalimu ndio hawatoshi mpaka PTA na Board inaandika kanda ya moko kushikilia sembuse capitation.

You have decided to get personal rather than address @Clemens argument. That's very bright because, it adds value to the Kijiji.
Yes. Ibtellectual vacuity is using spurious data points to buttress a point. If he were socially intelligent, he would have realised that his argument was spurious and idealistic in the Kenyan context. Were it not for the ban, wewe ningekuita ile kitu inabwekabweka ama ile ingine inakuwanga na pembe na mkia but sawa tuu.

He is a member of a BOM. You could have refuted his claims using authoritative data that supports a different conclusion.

I know that the most brilliant thinkers use their skills to come up dull, unimaginative personal insults.

This is very key, some schools have changed but others are still languishing, it all boils down to mgt of the school. I have seen gok schools in shags that look very nice but others are in shambles even the fence in some areas is just open from vandalism , choo unaskia smell from very far.
