I GOT CORONA - So friends, I got Corona. For the last 16 days I have been recovering from this disease. I had a pretty tough attack and had to be hospitalized for somedays. Of course, as a leader there is a sense of discretion not to want everyone to know you're sick, however, I have to write this post.
Within this short time when I have been sick, Many have lost dear ones and friends to this thing. About a month ago, i was having conversations with loved ones and I was busy telling them Corona isn't an African disease and.....and then it happened.. i got infected, I had to be picked by an ambulance taken into hospital as an emergency. While at hospital my family had to be tested and I was even more devastated that I had infected my son (who by God's grace was asymptomatic and has survived).
I have had time......time to pray, seek God, and reflect. I have watched around as so many heroes are losing their lives - fathers, mothers, doctors, sisters and brothers - and you know at the hospital I was seeing these doctors and nurses making so many sacrifices.......I truly salute them as they are truly in the line of fire.
I had done a wedding for one of my very close friends and he called me while at hospital to tell me I just lost my dad - like just three days later.
I feel a responsibility to say the following and I pray it helps someone.
God has saved me and I am much better and stronger now - my oxygen is normalizing and I am getting stronger. But as a father I was distraught for having endangered my family.....as a husband I felt as though I betrayed my darling wife and yet I was the champion that always said we have to go work coz how do we eat if we cant work? Whereas there is truth in this statement, it was shrouded with arrogance.....and I regret saying it.
But now I know better. This disease is tricky - it makes you think you are ok so you don't see it coming. For some people your internal organs begin failing without notice to your system and by the time you go to hospital and they isolate you its too late. Friends this is not the disease you try to be a hero with - if you feel any of the symptoms, ACT. Call your doctor and get your oxygen and vitals checked.
I ask that if people must gather, please remember your loved ones. Somehow over the next 120-150 days before vaccines reach us, could you consider gathering differently? We shouldn't live by fear - I am a pastor......I know it is so important to be together......but I cant imagine being responsible for even one infection or death among the people God has given me....... I know we love to gather - but I beg us - I beg us to value every life because I am convinced God will not fault us for taking the next 3-6 months as a different season and then He will bring us back to good times.....but this season needs wisdom and creativity for gathering. It is good to see churches are observing the necessary protocols but please be vigilant...... I ask that we care for those among us going through this pain because it is taking lives,,...it is........as a father who infected his son I am awakened to how possible it is for this thing to clear out a family - only for God's mercy.
As you go to work, please go where you really must go and do your best to work remotely if you can and for those that must be at work please exercise utmost caution for the sake of your destiny and those you love.
For bosses who have the ability to make decisions for your teams to work remotely, please help us cross over with minimal casualties. 3-6 months of this inconvenience versus your team....well.....please consider.
This message isn't for everyone....but I felt a responsibility to say please be careful......and to God who has healed me may He touch everyone of you that may be affected. The virus is reacting differently for different people. One of the best tools you can get for your family is called an oximeter at the very minimum tell you how your oxygen is fairing. Dont take chances please......we need you here tomorrow.....we need you here for life. Wear your mask.....social distance.....and please, stay home.
Tomorrow I will do my season finale for Business Monday....i will be live because I want to share more with you. Love you all and God bless you.
