The hymn "Amazing Grace" was written by a poet named John Newton who had a reputation of using foul language. When working as a sailor, he was repeatedly warned for using the worst words the captain had ever heard. Even the toughest sailors, known for their cursing were sickened by John's foul language.

In some places cursing is absolutely normal, have worked with guys who are incapable of constructing any sentence longer than three words without a swear word.
