Let's see if Gor will win the league this time round or will AFC finally silence their bitter Rivals.

What you need to know:
  • Coach Francis Kimanzi guided Wazito to their first win of the season with a 3-1 thrashing over 10-man Vihiga United at Utalii Grounds on Friday.
  • Former Gor Mahia man Bonface Omondi opened his accounts in the 12th minute, while Dennis Nganga and Whyvonne Isuza scored a goal apiece in the 28th and 51st minutes respectively. Norman Werunga scored Vihiga’s consolation goal in the 63rd minute.

The 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) season entered its second round over the weekend with six matches being played.
AFC Leopards and KCB made it two wins out of two, while Wazito bounced back from their opening day loss to register their first win.

Here, Nation Sport looks at five talking points from the Premier League weekend.

1. Henry Onyango proving to be a shrewd signing for KCB

Friday's match between KCB and Nairobi City Stars at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani in Nairobi was a tough one. It was evident that the team that would make good use of its chances would carry the day.

2. AFC Leopards in safe hands with Antony Kimani
The exit of coach Tomas Trucha on claims that he felt 'unsafe' in the country after some supporters threatened his agent was no doubt a big blow to AFC Leopards.
The Czech tactician guided the team to a 2-1 win over Tusker in their opening match of the season and Ingwe were hoping to build on that before his sudden departure.

3. Will Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium be Sofapaka’s new fortress?
Sofapaka had a good start at the new home ground, the Dawson Mwanyumba stadium in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County on Sunday.
Batoto ba Mungu thumped Western Stima 3-1 at the refurbished stadium on the day it was unveiled by the county’s boss Granton Samboja.

4. Wazito back to winning ways
Coach Francis Kimanzi guided Wazito to their first win of the season with a 3-1 thrashing over 10-man Vihiga United at Utalii Grounds on Friday.
Former Gor Mahia man Bonface Omondi opened his accounts in the 12th minute, while Dennis Nganga and Whyvonne Isuza scored a goal apiece in the 28th and 51st minutes respectively. Norman Werunga scored Vihiga’s consolation goal in the 63rd minute.
The win eased the pressure on the ‘Moneybags’, who lost 4-0 to Karibangi Sharks in their season’s opening match and coach Kimanzi hopes they will build on the win. Another loss would have been catastrophic for the former Harambee Stars coach.

5. Indiscplined Vihiga United
Premier League returness Vihiga United have not had joy since making their return to the top-flight. After two matches, they are yet to pick any point, with they only important statistic to note is two sending offs from both matches.
In their first match against Kakamega Homeboyz at Mumias Sports Complex, Henry Juma was sent off in the second half after receiving his second booking. They went on to lose the match 1-0.

We wish Gor Mahia all the best in the CAF champions League

Gor Mahia will play CR Belouizdad of Algeria in the first round of the Caf Champions League later this month.
This after the Algerians beat Al-Nasr from Libya 2-0 away in their preliminary return leg match on Sunday to advance 4-0 on aggregate.

The first leg of the first round will be played on December 22-23 with the second leg set for January 5-6. CR Belouizdad are the current Algerian League champions, the first title since 2001 and seventh in total.

12) Champions League.

Manchester United and Real Madrid are among the teams facing the possibility of an early Champions League exit in this week's final round of group games.

United, who were knocked out in the group stage in 2015-16, must avoid defeat against RB Leipzig on Tuesday to guarantee progression to the last 16.

And 13-time European champions Real - who have never been knocked out at the group stage - need a victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday to progress for the 23rd year in a row.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and holders Bayern Munich are among the nine teams through to the knockout stages.

Here is the state of play going into the final round of group matches on 8 and 9 December.

Who is through to the knockout stages?
Qualified (but final position to be decided): Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus

Guaranteed top spot: Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City

Guaranteed second: Porto and Sevilla

Who still has something to play for?
Group A: Atletico Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg

Group B: Borussia Monchengladbach, Shakhtar Donetsk, Real Madrid, Inter Milan

Group D: Atalanta, Ajax

Group F: Lazio, Club Bruges

Group H: Manchester United, Paris St-Germain, RB Leipzig

When is the last 16 draw and how does it work?
The draw for the last 16 will take place on Monday, 14 December at Uefa's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Teams finishing top of their group will be drawn against a team finishing second in a different group.

Clubs cannot face a side they met in the group stage and, at this stage of the competition, teams from the same country cannot be drawn against each other. That is allowed to happen from the quarter-finals, the draw for which takes place on 19 March, alongside the semi-finals.

Teams will then be able to plot their route to the final, which is on 29 May at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

The last-16 ties are two-legged and will take on 16/17 and 23/24 February, and 9/10 and 16/17 March.

What do sides need to do to qualify?
Group H - What do Man Utd need?

Group H - Man Utd (9), PSG (9), Leipzig (6), Istanbul Basaksehir (3)

Tuesday, 8 December - Paris St-Germain v Istanbul Basaksehir, RB Leipzig v Manchester United (both 20:00 GMT)

Results in matchday five mean it is extremely tight at the top of Group H.

United need a point away at RB Leipzig to qualify for the last 16. A defeat in Germany would see them drop into the Europa League.

They could win the group with a point (if PSG do not win at home against Istanbul Basaksehir) but if PSG win their match they will top the group no matter the United result.

Leipzig will be through with a win. If they draw, they need PSG to lose.

If both United and PSG lose then the Parisians will qualify (alongside Leipzig) courtesy of a better goal difference in the two games between them and United.

Group B - Real on the brink?
Group B - Borussia Monchengladbach (8), Shakhtar Donetsk (7), Real Madrid (7), Inter Milan (5)

Wednesday, 9 December - Inter Milan v Shakhtar Donetsk, Real Madrid v Borussia Monchengladbach (both 20:00 GMT)

Another group that is wide open is Group B with all four teams still able to qualify. Leaders Borussia Monchengladbach travel to Real Madrid. If either side wins they are guaranteed to go through. The Germans will also progress with a draw. A point would only be enough for Real if Inter beat Shakhtar because of their superior head-to-head record over the Italians but not the Ukrainians.

A win takes Shakhtar through, and they would also progress with a draw if Real do anything but win. Inter have to win to reach the last 16 and even that would not be enough if the other game ends in a draw.

What about the other groups?

Atletico Madrid will progress from Group A providing they avoid defeat against Red Bull Salzburg in Austria (9 December, 20:00 GMT).

They will be joined by Atalanta, if they do not lose against Ajax (9 December, 17:55 GMT), and Lazio as long as they pick up a point against Club Bruges (8 December, 20:00 GMT).

If Lazio win then Borussia Dortmund will need to beat Zenit St Petersburg to guarantee finishing top of Group F.

Barcelona will secure top spot in Group G if they do not lose by more than one goal to Juventus. A 2-0 defeat would see them stay top, but Juve would top the group if they won 3-1, 4-2 etc or by more than two goals.

Which sides cannot reach the knockout stages?
The following sides are definitely out of last-16 contention. Krasnodar have guaranteed a Europa League spot for finishing third, while FC Midtjylland, Rennes, Zenit and Istanbaul Basaksehir will all finish fourth in their groups. The others can all still reach the Europa League.

Group A: Lokomotiv Moscow

Group C: Olympiakos, Marseille

Group D: FC Midtjylland (will finish fourth)

Group E: Krasnodar, Rennes (will finish third and fourth respectively)

Group F: Zenit St Petersburg (will finish fourth)

Group G: Dynamo Kyiv, Ferencvaros

Group H: Istanbul Basaksehir (will finish fourth)

What about the Europa League?
Arsenal, Leicester City, Tottenham and Rangers have booked their place in the Europa League last 32. Here are the qualifiers from each of the groups so far:

Group A: Roma

Group B: Arsenal

Group C: Slavia Prague, Bayer Leverkusen

Group D: Rangers, Benfica

Group E: Granada, PSV Eindhoven

Group G: Leicester City, Braga

Group H: Lille, AC Milan

Group I: Villarreal

Group J: Royal Antwerp, Tottenham

Group K: Dinamo Zagreb

Group L: Hoffenheim, Red Star Belgrade

Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial will miss Manchester United's crucial Champions League game against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

Having missed United's 3-1 win over West Ham on Saturday, goalkeeper David de Gea is available again, as is defender Luke Shaw, who has not featured since the win over Everton a month ago.

Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial

RB Leipzig will be without Konrad Laimer, Lukas Klostermann and Benjamin Henrichs through injury on Tuesday, while head coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed teenager Lazar Samardzic has tested positive for Covid-19

Hwang Hee-chan is unavailable as he recovers from coronavirus and reported United target Dayot Upamecano is suspended

Rashford on fire - the stats
  • Manchester United have lost both of their last two away games against German teams in the Champions League - 1-3 v Bayern Munich in April 2014, and 2-3 against Wolfsburg in December 2015.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjær has lost five of his nine Champions League matches as a manager (W4); no manager has been defeated six or more times in their first 10 games in the competition while in charge of English sides.
  • Manchester United's Marcus Rashford has scored six goals in the Champions League group stages this season - no Englishman has ever scored seven or more goals in a single group stage, while the only Man Utd player to do so was Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2004-05 (8 goals).

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo reunited as Barcelona host Juventus in Champions League
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to meet for first time since the Portuguese's move to Juventus; Lionel Messi set to return for Barcelona after missing out on the last two Champions League matches; Cristiano Ronaldo was absent from the reverse fixture after testing positive for Covid-19

Ronaldo Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi meet for the first time in two years in the Champions League on Tuesday

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will be reunited for the first time since the latter's move to Italy in 2018 when Barcelona host Juventus in Champions League on Tuesday, but what is their history like?

Both sides have already qualified for the next stage of the Champions League and Ronald Koeman's men need to avoid losing by at least two goals to clinch top spot in Group G.
Sponsored link

Messi missed the trips to Dynamo Kyiv and Ferencvaros, but is set to return for what would be his first match against Cristiano Ronaldo since the Portuguese left Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018.

The overall history
Ronaldo and Messi have faced each other in 35 games between club (33) and country (2), with both international meetings being friendlies. It is one win apiece too - Argentina won 2-1 in February 2011, with both Ronaldo and Messi scoring. The other was in November 2014 with a Portugal 1-0 win.

Of course, their most regular clash came in El Clasico, with only three of their 33 club games being played while Ronaldo was at Manchester United. The other 30 were between Real Madrid and Barcelona. Messi has been victorious in 16 of their 35 meetings, Ronaldo in ten, with nine draws.

Unsurprisingly, both players became the El Clasico top scorers for their respective teams. Messi has scored 26 goals and Ronaldo did so 18 times, level with Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano.

In terms of overall goals, Ronaldo has scored 648 times since his professional debut for Sporting Lisbon in 861 club games. Messi has scored 641 club goals, all for Barcelona in 744 games, and both are the all-time top scorers for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

Ronaldo missed out in the reverse fixture in October after testing positive for coronavirus. Barcelona were 2-0 winners at the Juventus Stadium with Messi scoring a 90th-minute penalty after Ousmane Dembele's early opener.

Ronaldo vs Messi in the Champions League

Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Juventus against Ferencvaros

Ronaldo and Messi have faced each other five times in the Champions League, three times when the Portuguese played for Manchester United and twice for Real Madrid. They have not met in European competition since the El Clasico semi-final in the 2010/2011 season.

Messi has the upper hand in these fixtures (W2 D2) with only one Ronaldo victory, coming in the 2007/08 semi-final second leg at Old Trafford. But incredibly, the Juventus striker has never scored against a team including Messi in the Champions League, with the Argentine netting three times, including in the 2009 final in Rome.

Both are also the top scorers in European Cup/Champions League history, being the only players to reach 100 goals in the competition. Ronaldo was the first to surpass the century, netting 132 times, with Messi scoring 118 goals. Both are equalled for Champions League hat-tricks (8), as well as trebles in the top five European leagues (36).

Team news

Barcelona forward Dembele - who scored the opening goal in the reverse fixture - suffered a hamstring injury at the weekend and will not feature.

The France international joins Ansu Fati, Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto on the treatment table, while defender Samuel Umtiti remains a doubt with a knee problem despite training.

Juventus are set to be without Merih Demiral and Giorgio Chiellini, but Pirlo confirmed that Gianluigi Buffon is fit and could feature. Alvaro Morata could also find himself involved as he is currently serving a domestic suspension.

am sure if it wasn't for the Betting sponsors, Betking, the league wouldn't have started due to lack of funds.
Gor were given Tracksuits to play with against their opponents in the previous CAF game. (luckily, proper team kits and funds were availed just before the game)

so if Betking leaves, we have to pray funds are available for the league to continue.

Man Untd second half antics/resurrection have come to an end. the trick is to ensure you add to your first-half goals in the second half and you win against them.

well, Arsenal, Leicester, and Spurs, please welcome us with open hands. Sevilla isn't in the Europa League, so we will have a new winner and probably an English team unless Ibra and/or Gerrad have other ideas

Team News
  • Noussari Mazraoui and David Neres have joined Mohammed Kudus on the sidelines ahead of Ajax's welcome of Atalanta.
  • Sean Klaibar should come into the side at right-back, while Lassina Traore may feature in attack with Antony and Dusan Tadic featuring from the right and left, respectively.
  • Robin Gosens and Aleksay Miranchuk are both absent having tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Mattia Caldara and Pierluigi Gollini remain sidelined, while Sam Lammers joins the injury list
  • Jose Luis Palomino started the 1-1 draw with Midtjylland, but may drop out at the expense of Rafael Toloi.

  • In this huge Group D clash, Ajax sit one point behind second-placed Atalanta as they look to join Liverpool in the next round of the Champions League. The Dutch side, though, come into this meeting on the back of a 2-1 loss to Twente over the weekend.
  • Atalanta were held to a 1-1 draw by Midtjylland last week and their game against Udinese was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, so they have had extra time to prepare for this clash. However, the Serie A side are out of form, winning just one of their last six matches, that coming in a 2-0 win at Liverpool.
  • Atalanta are aware they need only to avoid defeat to book a place in the last-16, but Ajax, Saturday's loss to Twente aside, have been nigh-on imperious at home and could edge this one in what promises to be an entertaining clash in Amsterdam.
