With the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) which is on the process of implementation to replace the 8.4.4 old system, it hs been reported that the Bachelor’s of Education course wl be phased out and shall be replaced by regular arts or sciences.

Therefore, students wishing to pursue a career in teaching will be taking regular arts or science degrees followed by a one-year post-graduate diploma in education to qualify for registration as teachers, a move that will see trained teachers who will be well endowed with the requirements of the CBC system of education.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has called upon all the universities in Kenya to scrap the B.Ed course as part of reforms intended to usher in the Competency-Based Curriculum.

The new curriculum is more of student based system with the focus on the ability of the student to self-learn and acquire relevant preliquisite skills for the competitive job market.

The Universities should work towards aligning the education programmes to suit the Competency-Based Curriculum. Teachers now require specialised training right from the start to be able to undke learners in the new curriculum once they complete training.
