Ujinga, Maradhi na Umaskini

I have been reading a bit of history of our shithole country, and came across this phrase. Apparently, and rightly so, the bad old Jomo had identified the three ills as what needed to be sorted to make Kenya great. Of course he failed, and I want to believe he tried. I think the reason he failed is because he didn't fix the single most importantest thing that has bedeviled our country since independence - ujinga.

In modern day Kenya, we can say by far and large that diseases have been well contained compared to 60 years ago. To a smaller extent, poverty too has been contained. But stupidity is still at the same (if not higher ) level than it was at independence. I have always asked myself why we never develop, or enjoy the fruits.of development, as a country that is so well placed geographical in the world and the region. And the answer is that we are stupid.

Why do I say that?
We Kenyans don't seem to know what is the right thing to do. We lack that basic instinct. Even a goat knows what plant to eat and which one to avoid. We Kenyans don't seem to distinguish. We don't know what is good for us.
As an example, kibaki will build us very good roads in Githurai and other towns. We stupid Kenyans turn the roads to markets, and therefore we create an even bigger traffic jam than what was there before. And it's not like what we are selling is a rare commodity that can't be found anywhere else.

We kenyans will find a matatu on the road, full already, but still squeeze in, thereby endangering everyone else and sacrificing our comfort. and mark you, it's not.like we are getting a free ride.

We Kenyans will leave our villages where we have some ⅛ piece of land and stream to the city to be employed as watchmen earning 6k a month and living in Mathare/kibera where there's no water or toilets, yet we left some free land that would have given is more and better living conditions..

We will opt to take a loan from a shylock which we can not afford to pay, and later on come complaining serikal saidia when we.lose the asset we used as collateral. And nobody forced anyone to go for that loan.

And the worst part is, we will elect a politician to lead/represent us knowing very well that they have a past record of stealing from us. We will use terms like mtu wetu, six-piece, fellow hustler, etc. Then we spend the next 5 years complaining, only to repeat the same mistake again.

I have been to countries where people have fewer natural resources, but are less stupid. And I can say for a fact that they live a better life than us. Sisi na ujinga yetu we don't seem to know what to do for ourselves ,even at individual level, to better our lives.

My take is that, any government that want to make Kenya great should focus on this big issue of eliminating stupidity. And this will not be achieved through education. Some of the most educated are the most stupid. It will only be achieved through campaigns aimed at making us wangwana.
Once we stop being stupid, poverty and disease will be a thing of the past.

I think Kenya should put a uniform tax on everyone like the colonists did. Each month unalipa 5k in taxes for every soul including infants. That's 250bn monthly or 3tn yearly.
That way, we will know the value of our resources, and more importanter, how to.protect them. But most importantest, tutaacha kuzaana kama panya.
