Maybe, just maybe we horticultural farmers will have a short reprieve from the influx of cheap zero rated produce veggies from Uganda that drive us off the market.
Case 1. Tomatoes grown in Uganda
Fertilizers, fungicides,, incecticdes... cost 50% less than those we use in Kenya. A daily labourer costs about Ugx 6500-7000 equivalent to Kes 250...... My guys take Kes 400 plus lunch.
My farm is 500 metres from the river, I use 12 litres of diesel per acre, twice a week, however in Uganda or Tz fellow farmers have access to irrigation water or nearby flowing streams.
These countries protect their farmers....
Kindly show me anyone who's exported farm produce to Tz and Uganda @( I mean readily perishable commodities like tomatoes, mangoes....)
End of rant #1..... Today the market wasn't good because tomatoes from Rombo and Ethiopia have hit the market

I know of people in Tana river county who export Mangoes to Dar. But all in all the Kenyan farmer is left to his own devices to bear all the vagaries.

You can make it if you avoid the copycat culture, where we all plant uniform crop in areas where a variety of crops can grow, leading to reduced market price due to oversupply.
Thus as I said without money.... those variety of crops needs a lot of money. ... and if I may ask.. which variety of crops do you have in mind.
Have you enquired about animal feeds of late....
