Types of STDs and their symptoms

STD- Sexually Transmitted Diseases are infections through sexual intercourse caused by viruses, parasites, and bacteria.

One can get STDs from anal, vaginal or oral sex. The germs that cause STDs, hide in blood, saliva, semen, and vaginal secretions.
The STDs can be transmitted by having several sexual partners, by engaging in sex without protection, and or share sharp objects with infected persons.

These STDs are;
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Chlamydia
  • Genital Herpes
  • Genital warts
  • Gonorrhea
  • Syphilis

Some of the STDs can be managed but not cured, STDs such as HIV and herpes, Chlamydia and gonorrhea cause barrenness in women.
One might not realise they have an STD until certain symptoms start to some, others may notice damage in their private parts, problems with vision, heart problems, and other human organs.

Genital warts and genital herpes are caused by skin contacts, while Hepatitis B can be transmitted through sharing of personal items such as toothbrush and razors which an infected person.

Below are the symptoms of the STDs

1. HIV/AIDS

Human Immunodeficiency Virus can cause other diseases and cause damage to the immune system. One can have HIV but not AIDs since there is awareness and enough treatment. When HIV is left untreated, one can get AIDs.

With HIV/AIDs one is advised to take ARVs which help contain the illness.
The symptoms include;
  • Weight loss
  • Recurring fever or profuse night sweats
  • Extreme and unexplained tiredness
  • Prolonged swelling of the lymph glands in the armpits, groin, or neck
  • Diarrhea that lasts for more than a week
  • Sores of the mouth, anus, or genitals
  • Pneumonia
2. Chlamydia

Chlamydia is caused by bacteria, one might not know if they have it until it gets severe. These symptoms include;

  • Pain in the lower abdomen
  • Yellow or green discharge from the penis or vagina
  • Pain during sex or urination
When Chlamydia is not treated, it can lead to infection of the urethra and testicles, infertility and pelvic inflammatory disease.

3. Genital herpes

Herpes is the shortened name for the herpes simplex virus. One develops sores around the genital areas. The first outbreak is most painful, they become less painful and frequent over time.

4. Genital warts

Genital warts are small bumps around the genital area. In women, genital warts grow around the vulva and the vagina walls, in men, they appear on the tip of a penis, the scrotum or the anus.
The symptoms include;
  • Bleeding while having sex
  • Itching or discomfort in your genital area
  • Small, flesh-colored, brown or pink swellings in your genital area
5. Gonorrhea

Many people with gonorrhea develop or have no symptoms until it becomes severe.

The symptoms are;
  • Yellow discharge from the vagina or penis
  • Pain during sex
  • Frequent urination
  • Sore throat
  • itching around the genital area
6. Syphilis

Syphilis is normally unnoticed in its early stages. The first symptom is a sore around the genital area. It is painless. One might experience headaches, rush, fatigue and weight loss.

If Syphilis is not treated in the early stages, it may lead to;
  • Mental illness
  • Loss of vision
  • Loss of hearing
  • Heart disease

Did you also know that genital herpes doesn't have to manifest as lesions on the genitals as the word suggests? I came across someone who had recurring skin issues on the lower back but it was on both sides....and looked alot like herpes Zoster. But they denied it's an STI. That's no different from a common cold that causes a blister at the side of your mouth.
You live with it with zero effect.
Not sacral herpes....which is a type of genital herpes. You may get frequent outbreaks that may have other symptoms...as well as future complications.....
