I read somewhere around three hundred of them drowned juzi juzi at the mara river
There was and still is an all time high number of Wildebeasts in the Mara - Serengeti ecosystem anyway.
Down and up the food chain the carcasses are necessary nutrition to other species.
Lastly record size herds were/ are going to overgraze denuding the eco-system to the detriment of all species.
This looks like mother nature keeping the balance at optimum.
It's Christmas come early for scavengers and carnivores. Think Crocks, Vultures, Hyenas and other undertakers.

Most of the wildebeest herds are now in the Ndutu region of the greater Serengeti ecosystem and it is arguably one of the most spectacular phenomena during the annual migration. An estimated 500,000 wildebeest are born over a very short period, with the newly born calves up and running only an hour after birth.

In this migration, Serengeti wildebeest goes through risk and endanger their lives especially as they cross the Mara River. ... Other than that, because of the deforestation in the watershed over the past years, the current of the running water in Mara River has been dangerously high.

The calving season in Ndutu happens between Feb and March, then they start moving northwards in search of pasture.
The migration is a year long cycle where the animals spend about 9 months in Serengeti and 3 months in Masai Mara.
In comparison to Serengeti Masai Mara is very small portion of the shared ecosystem.
