"We will not change our religion for 28 days while the championship is going on."
Abdullah Al-Nassari, head of security for the Qatar World Cup, responded to claims of a strict LGBT policy in Qatar:
"If you want to express your opinion on LGBT rights, do it in a society where it will be accepted. Don't insult the society where you come to visit. We won't change our religion for 28 days while the championship is going on. If some fan raises a rainbow flag in the stadium and gets picked up by the police, it won't be because we want to offend him, but to protect him. If we don't, other spectators might attack him. Just remember, you're buying a ticket to a soccer game, not a demonstration of rainbow freedoms."
