The Message Is In The Music...

It's Me Scumbag

Elder Lister
...And the music is in the message.

I first interacted with Reggae in my uncle's house listening to songs like Bufallo Soldier, Zimbabwe and the like. Topi Lyambila's Reggae Vibrations later became the must listen to program on KBC Radio. Reggae was still not mainstream. It was viewed as music for weed head and rebels.
The enter Jeff Mwangemi with Reggae Times and poh poh poh chant. His program started with this hypnotising audio "...the message is in the music and the music is in the message..."
And the signature lyrics "I wanna shake me dread, why you wanna shave me dread"
Now this guy became immensely popular and reggae stated getting airplay and being accepted.
Jeff once stopped in Karatina town and caused a stampede.
Everyone wanted to catch a glimpse of the legend.
They wanted to shake their dread with the man.
He needed police protection to get back to his vehicle.
He had broken a few hearts...they could not understand how he shook his dread in his Reggae Times radio show.
Jeff Mwangemi was and I believe still is a baldhead. Those days it was known as Jordan.
But the man is still a legend!
