One of the bravest politicians Kenya ever produced was Elijah Mwangale ( 1938-2004) , he was the chairman of the JM kariuki parliamentary committe. In their report mwangale committee recommended that powerful minister in the office of the president Mbiyu Koinange and Kenyatta's personal bodyguard Wainyoke Thungu and ordered further investigation into their conduct which led to the president retorting that , " why didn't they include me?" He received a lot of pressure including a reprimand from kenyatta's men including a rumoured summon to State House but went ahead and tabled it in parliament and handed the report as it was to the president. Parliament voted if the report woupd be adopted and Mwangale's mentor Masinde Muliro the minister of social services voted against the government's position as well as assistant minister Peter kibisu. The two were summarily sacked and it was rumoured that Mwangale was to be detained anytime. When mzee passed , Mwangale became a right wing man and stopped his revolutionary tendencies. He was appointed a cabinet minister after the elections of 1979. He later on would take on Njonjo head on. While politicians were going in circles to name the traitor that moi said was being groomed to take over from him by westerners, it is Mwangale that retorted in parliament one afternoon," Njonjo you are the traitor we are talking about" Moi suspended Njonjo from cabinet the same day and appointed a commission of inquiry into his conduct. Mwangale lost his Kimilili seat in the 1992 general elections to little known Mukhisa kituyi

Ford Mdel T, Nairobi in 1924

It is not known when the first vehicle was registered in Kenya, but it is thought to be before 1920. Single letters were attributed to each of the 14 registration districts i.e. N=Kiambu, E=Kisumu, J=Kitale, B, H, T, W=Nairobi, A=Mombasa, C=Nakuru, D=Kericho, F=Eldoret, G=Nyeri, K=Muranga (Fort Hall), L=Kisii, Q=Machakos, S=Lamu, V=Isiolo, Y=Nanyuki. A serial number of 1-9999 followed, on white on black plates, save for public transport vehicles, ie buses, taxis and hire cars, which used black on white.

The 1950 K-prefix series was a change to a three-letter numbering system, necessitated by the increasing number of vehicles being registered. It was introduced on a regional basis as follow; All plates began with K, followed by the regional code (below) and a serial letter A-Z, not using letters I or O.

Nairobi - KB (1950), KF (1955), KG (1959), KH (1961), KK (1965), KM (1968), KN (1970), KP (1972), KQ (1974), KR (1976) and KV (1978)

Mombasa - KA (1950), KJ (1966), KT (1977)

Nakuru - KC (1950), KL (1967), KS (1977)

Kisumu - KD (1950), KU (1977)

Nanyuki - KE

Other number were issued

Some KC and KL numbers were issued to Eldoret and Kitale.

KBA was issued in Nyeri, the first Nairobi number being KBB. Nyeri then followed with KFE and KGT.

Kericho was issued with KDB then KDK which were used up to 1969.

Kisii was issued with KDE then shared KDK with Kericho.

Kakamega used KDL between 1962 and 1967.

The numbering system was centralised in 1980 and after that date all Kenya numbers are in sequence. Between 1980 and 1984 the unused numbers from Nakuru (KS), Mombasa (KT) and Kisumu (KU) were issued, KW (1984) being the first number that was never used regionally

Dr. Taitta Arap Towett, was the minister for Education in Kenya between 1969 and 1979. He maintained his trademark spectacles on the forehead until his death in a road accident on the outskirts of Nakuru Town on 8th October 2007 at the age of 82.
He was an enigma who had peculiarities that one would find intellectually difficult to rationalize.
In June 1961, and while serving as the Minister for Lands Settlement and Housing, the 4ft 10 diminutive politician bravely told a huge crowd during a political rally in Kericho that those who wanted land for free should as well go to the Sahara Desert where there was plenty of land for free.
In the 1980’s he conducted a study on the sleeping habits of moles and went further to establish the effects on human beings if someone ate the mole. He had first wanted to use cats for the study but abandoned the feline animals because he discovered their ineptness. The cats were naturally heavy sleepers and he settled on the moles.
In 1981, Towett revealed that he had written a will, indicating his corpse should be preserved for human anatomy studies.
His Mashimoni residence was not visible at ground level because it was built below ground level, hence the name 'Mashimoni' (bunker).
His vehicles either had the front passenger seats removed or turned backwards so that the person occupying them faced him. His reasoning was so that he could look at the person talking to him in the eye.
His 26 children and wives could not just walk into his house. He always insisted that they book an appointment with him.
Even in his old age, Towett always kept time and often chided latecomers.
Which of his peculiarities have I mis-represented and which have I forgotten.

Kaniel hii ni ya juzi..... Kuna ile ya red.... A pile of them.

Where is the black copper wire?

Anyhow I used them nikiwa Music festivals, National level and our camp was pale Moi Avenue Primary school....

We shared the same venue with some fine yengs from Maasai girls.

To avoid the inconvinience of the reversed call to the one intended, I was an expert..... Unaweka five bob ile kubwa alafu kabla imezwe unaishikilia hapo juu.... And talk for some time.
