Wangapi wanakumbuka hii story.

The purported Mau Mau General Mathenge? Yes! I do recall this saga which was speared by one time veteran reporter and news editor for Daily Nation, Joseph Karimi. (He coauthored Kenyatta Succession with Philip Ochieng).
As I recall the story, during his investigative journalism, Karimi unearthed that the long lost General Mathenge was living in Ethiopia.
Plans were hurriedly done to bring him back a given heroic welcome.
What turned out later was that this man, Ayanu was not the General Mathenge.
This man didn't speak Kikuyu. He could not remember anything about Kenya.
Even Mukami Kimathi, the wife of General Dedan Kimathi didn't recognise this purported General Mathenge.
