Top scorer Jentrix Shikangwa was the hero when she sunk a brace to inspire the hosts to a 2-1 victory over Ethiopia’s CBE FC during the regional CECAFA qualifiers final played in Nairobi.

FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura was among the officials who attended the final that was played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 regulations.
Shikangwa, who came to the final with six goals, opened the scoring for the former Kenyan Women Premier League champions in the 27th minute when a cross from the right by Violet Wanyonyi was poorly dealt with to allow the striker to turn in the loose ball.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed more details of its maiden Women’s Champions League tournament.
The tournament will consist of eight teams which will be determined through qualifiers to be held in each of CAF’s six regional zones.

In addition to the six teams from the zonal qualifiers, the host country will provide another team and, for the inaugural tournament only, a second team from the same region as the host country will be drafted in.

“For the maiden edition, the zonal union of the host country will have two representatives. However, for subsequent editions, the host country will have only one representative whilst the Zonal Union of the defending champion will qualify two teams,” CAF said in a statement.

CAF further stated that the eight teams will be drawn into two groups of four teams each in accordance with the regulations. Details of the knockout stages, whether it may follow a single or double-leg format, were not revealed.
The tournament will be held annually and during the second half of the year.

Arta/Sola7 vs Tusker Fc (5pm)

1631352548972.png

During their last participation in the competition in 2017, Tusker succumbed in the preliminary round when they were eliminated by Port-Louis of Mauritius 3-2 on aggregate and as such, they will be hoping to better their performance.

Port Louis had picked up a vital 1-1 draw from the first leg meeting at Kasarani Stadium and returned home to beat the Brewers 2-1.
Meanwhile, Arta Solar enjoyed a successive campaign in Djibouti as they won the league and also the domestic cup.

Solar, who are captained by former Cameroon and Arsenal midfielder Alex Song, topped the 10-team table with 46 points from 18 matches, 11 more than second-placed Police Nationale, and also clinched the Djibouti Cup after a 4-3 win against FC Dikhil in the final.

The Brewers, who have now won 12 league titles, will host the return leg on September 18 with the winner qualifying for the first round, where they will take on Egyptian giants Zamalek in October.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides and Tusker will hope to get a convincing result to take back to Kenya for the return leg set for September 18.

Cristiano Ronaldo says he has not returned to Manchester United "for a vacation" as the Portugal captain prepares for his Old Trafford homecoming on Saturday.

During his first spell with the Red Devils, the 36-year-old scored 118 goals in 292 games over six successful years in the North West.
"I am capable," Ronaldo told the club's official website. "I am ready to go."

United host Newcastle in the Premier League in a 15:00 BST kick-off.

The re-signing of Ronaldo for £12.8m from Juventus was one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer as United's rivals Manchester City had looked to be one of the favourites to land the forward.

The Portuguese star, who will wear the number seven shirt once again, won three Premier League titles, one Champions League, two League Cups and one FA Cup - as well as the Fifa Club World Cup and Community Shield - under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

  • Servette have never previously made the last 16 under any format.

  • Real Madrid reached the group stage on debut with a victory against Manchester City.
  • Kharkiv are in the last 16 for the first time under any format.

Group C
  • Barcelona, in their debut European tie, lost 3-0 at home and 4-0 away against Arsenal in the 2012/13 round of 32.
  • Both Hoffenheim and HB Køge are making European debuts.

Group D
  • Lyon's five-year reign as champions was ended last season; they have a record seven titles overall.
  • Lyon beat Bayern 2-1 in a one-off quarter-final in Bilbao in August 2020.
  • Bayern made the semis last season; Häcken (previously known as Göteborg) are also past quarter-finalists.
  • Benfica are the first Portuguese team to be among the last 16 in UEFA women's club competition.

How does the group stage work?
Teams in every group face each other home and away. The top two teams in each group progress to the quarter-finals, drawn on 20 December and played in March.
