The young man identified as Kanyiri Wathika is the son of major Sportpesa shareholder and the former Nairobi mayor was found him dead in his room, in what is suspected to be an act of suicide. Police move the body to the mortuary.
The father of Kanyiri, Dick Wathika died in 2015 after a short illness. He was a former mayor of Nairobi and Makadara MP.
In 2007 Election he was declared the winner for the Makadara seat but the courts annulled his victory 30th April 2010. Lady Justice Kalpana Rawal ruled that the election was marred by irregularities.
