During the launch of BBI report today, Tanzania Foreign Affairs Minister Prof Palamagamba John Aidan Mwaluko Kabudi caused laughter when he said that his relatives in Kenya are the Kipsigis. This is not surprising because his Barabaeeg community in Singida district in Rift Valley originally lived in Kenya before migrating to Tanzania 250 years ago. The Maasai refer to them as Olmang’ati or respected enemy.
Barabaeeg means beaters of sticks or Bar(bir) baeeg(sticks) and live in Singida with their cousins Tatireek,Tatooga( originally from Tto) in Burgei hence the saying “we came from Tto.
Kabudi's grandmother was a Kipsigis from Mwanza mkoa wa Manyara.
The Barabaeek lived in Central Kenya with Gumba,Ghumbieng,Akie,Akieek,Ogieek,Thirikwa(Sirikwa),
Thirige,Athi who introduced to the Kikuyu four agesets, Maina(Maina),Mwangi(Nyongi), Cuma(Cuma),and Irungu(Korongoro) .
His message was that we are a truely East African society.
